Seg 1- Personal news from each participant (when you are done with your segment please ask the next person what has been up with them)

Rob- Cleaned some guns.  Dry practice.  Bill Frady commented on one of my articles on his Lock and Load Radio program.

John – I’m baaack! What I thought was going to be a one week absence from the show turned into two weeks due to my mother-in-law suffering a fractured pelvis. She is on the mend and is in an acute rehab facility.

While I was gone I got to meet Charlie Foxtrot in person. We had a great time over lunch. I couldn’t thank him enough for all the help he has been to us on the podcast. As an aside – and Rob will be interested in this – Charlie has a really nice classic open cockpit sailboat.

Doc Wesson mentioned me on the last Gun Nation podcast. We are trying to get Grant Cunningham and Paul Carlson to a class in NC.

In gun related stuff, I presented my nephew with a Ruger 10/22 in stainless for his combined 18th birthday/HS graduation gift. The rifle was one that my late father-in-law had set aside for him. I just added a nice red dot sight on it. Grant was very excited to get it. I’ve also started to re-read John Ross’ classic book about the gun culture entitled Unintended Consequences.

Gary- Had a strange exception from FedEx on some ammo LuckyGunner.com was helpful with information about that. Helped some former students with their IL FCCL applications. Cleaning guns I have to put another 100 rounds through with no malfunctions before I switch over to the Para.

Rachel- Last weekend I instructed a ladies-only rifle marksmanship course at Battle Road. We set this up for some folks from A Girl & A Gun. They’re the best. I always love hanging out with those ladies. I knew it was going to be a great weekend when I was standing at the gate in the pouring rain to welcome them on the first morning, and they all came rolling in in their trucks and jeeps with big smiles on their faces, ready to work rain or shine. And we had a good deal of both! We instructors noted several differences with this line: lots of yoga mats, not so many shooting mats; almost all centerfires (mostly AR-15’s), carts for gear, and of course a different dynamic that comes with the female-only courses. Can’t wait to have the Girl & A Gun ladies out again for another shoot.

Meanwhile, we’re gearing up for more Battle Road courses this fall. There’s our Zombie Run on October 10, which is already around half-way full. Besides that, we’re looking at a precision rifle course to learn the math and science behind those sniper shots, some intro to firearms and self defense courses geared toward women, CHL classes, and as always, our normal tactical pistol and shotgun classes. I’d like to remind our listeners that we offer specialized courses tailored to your group, and we also love doing private courses. Let us know how we can help you out.

I’m also preparing for the 2-week girls’ camp that I lead, Academy 31. It is August 2-14 this year and I will be teaching firearms to all the girls who come.

Paul-  I need to apologize to the listeners. I did not finish editing the show Sunday night before I HAD to get to bed, so took the laptop with me to go to work on Monday. I figured that I would get some time monday or Tuesday to finish editing the show and get it uploaded, yeah right. I did not finish it until Wednesday evening, and what was supposed to be a mid week show did not release until after I got home on Saturday.

I had a GREAT time shooting with friends on Saturday morning. We had 5 new shooters! Well almost, 2 of the 5 had shot before, but not for more than 5 years and so we counted them in as among the newbies. 3 of them actually took their first handgun shots yesterday. This has brought about a bit of a dilemma for me.

I was fortunate enough to be considered among the most trained handgun shooters in our informal gathering so it fell on to me to do a safety briefing and help the newer shooters out.  I absolutely fell in love with helping them.

One thing that I have always asserted is that I am NOT a firearms instructor. I got involved with handgun shooting to protect myself and my family and started the podcast because I thought that I could help make a difference in the direction that our nation was headed. I don’t like to follow. One reason that it took over a year and a half for us to start doing DGU stories is that I didn’t want to do the same thing that The Gun Dudes and Cam Edwards did on their shows.  In the same vein a  LOT of podcast hosts are trainers, and again I have never wanted to follow the pack.

Now having said all that I am actually considering going through the steps to become an instructor. I truly loved helping out the new shooters take their first steps and would like to be able to do more of it.

I got a chance to put a few magazines worth of ammo through the H&K VP9 while I was at the range. Talk about a SWEET gun! I do not like the mag release on it, but that is about the only thing that I can say negative about the gun. On slow fire at 15 feet the group that I fired could have been covered by a half dollar coin. 15 feet rapid fire could have been covered by a dollar bill, one that had been cut in half. I don’t know how but H&K has defied the laws of physics, they made a lightweight full size double stack 9mm that has next to no recoil and feels great in your hand.

Kathy Jackson class coming to Sioux Falls on August 15th and 16th. We are extending the free handgun retention class for paid class members until July 10th. If you email Susan@ad7.8f3.myftpupload.com to register and pay for your class by July 10th you get the 4 hour handgun retention class for free. this class is a $50 value.

Anti-gun Cali Senator Yee Guilty of Corruption

California Senator Leland Yee has long been a thorn in the side of many of the state’s citizens.  He was a San Francisco hard leftist, unrestrained free-spender, and a virulent anti-gunner even by California’s wild standards. He was given an A+ rating by the Brady Bunch and named to their Gun Violence Prevention Honor Roll. So, it was a bit of a surprise when the Feds arrested the powerful, well-connected politician for corruption and gun-running.

In an 88 page indictment, Yee was accused of providing automatic weapons and rocket propelled grenades to California’s extremely violent Chinese drug gangs. He was also accused of money laundering, murder-for-hire, and drug distribution.

This week, Yee and several confederates pled guilty to a single count of racketeering conspiracy. He could face a quarter million dollar fine and twenty years in prison. HIs primary criminal partner, tong leader Raymond “Shrimp Boy” Chow, was not part of the plea deal. Also not included were the gun-running, money laundering, murder-for-hire, and drug distribution charges. There’s hope that these charges are being deferred to assure Yee’s cooperation in a widening investigation of California’s endemic political corruption. It is also possible that these charges will be dismissed in a dysfunctional legal system.

We can only wish Leland Yee a long and healthy life behind the bars of a Federal maximum security prison.  With lots of his political friends for company.

Woman Killed by Paroled Illegal Alien With Multiple Felonies, Multiple Deportations

Kathryn Steinle, 32, was shot to death at a popular San Francisco tourist spot, a victim of political correctness as surely as if the elites themselves pulled the trigger. The man charged with her murder is a hardened thug, an illegal alien deported five times, and a criminal with seven felony convictions to his record, four of them involving narcotics. He was on parole for yet another crime. Francisco Sanchez, 45, is a reprehensible man, an evil man. Yet, he was allowed to traverse the border and country seemingly at will, stay here illegally, and largely avoid any significant punishment for his crimes. The first day of July, a man that should have been behind bars or a thousand miles away, took a gun he wasn’t allowed to have as a felon, in a city that is largely a gun-free zone, and went to a tourist attraction looking for someone to kill. There, without a word, he shot a random stranger through the heart.

Sanchez’ latest outrage started in March, when he was turned over to San Francisco police on an outstanding drug warrant by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. ICE officials issued a detainer at that time, requesting notification prior to his release so arrangements could be made to take custody. However, ICE knew that San Francisco had declared itself a “sanctuary city” and that the request would not be honored. ICE effectively, cynically washed their hands of him. Sanchez was also in violation of his ongoing Texas parole. His legal status, his prior convictions, his parole violations didn’t matter: San Francisco released him on an unsuspecting public.

A few weeks later, Katy Steinle, a beautiful, vibrant young woman lay dying in a pool of her own blood, begging her distraught father to help her.

There can be no better – or worse – reason why we fight for our Second Amendment Rights. No greater proof of why we must be our own first responders. We. Are. On. Our. Own. We cannot afford to do otherwise. Not when our own governments favor criminals over the law abiding. Not when feel-good sentiments trump reason and justice. Not when our governments seek to remove our most effective means of self-defense against the evil they nurture.

TV News Crews Robbed at Gunpoint While Filming Story of San Francisco Pier Shooting

Further illustrating just how well San Francisco’s draconian anti-gun policies are working; several TV news crews were robbed at gunpoint while filming the story of Kathryn Steinle’s shooting death at the San Francisco Embarcadero. Three males in dark clothing, one with dreadlocks, participated in the early morning attack. They drove a late-model BMW with aftermarket rims and no license plates. The armed attack resulted in several injuries and a significant loss of TV station property. This seem completely implausible, as San Francisco is almost entirely a gun-free zone.

It’s hard, okay – impossible, not to indulge in a bit of schadenfreude.  The city’s media have long been eager supporters of Frisco’s many harsh and intrusive anti-gun laws. Law-abiding citizens find it difficult to legally possess a firearm for protection even within their own homes. The lawless find no impediment, as the TV news crews can testify. Our glee is somewhat tempered, as this event will undoubtedly lead to still more ineffective anti-gun proposals to limit the rights of the law-abiding. But, that’s life in Baghdad by the Bay.

Kansas is Now a Constitutional Carry State

As of July 1st, Kansas is a Constitutional Carry state! The recent NRA backed bill provided for permitless concealed carry became effective the first day of July. Kansas already enjoyed open carry.

Congratulations, Jayhawkers! You’ve made us proud!

Rachel: OK, NRA. You backed permitless carry for Kansas? What about Texas?

One in Three ‘Muricans Owns Guns

Columbia University recently published a study on gun ownership. Interestingly, the study was performed by an assistant professor of of epidemiology. That’s the science that studies the patterns, causes, and effects of disease conditions. Could it be… biased? Yet, the study found mostly positive results for gun owners. The study holds that one out of three Americans owns a gun. Ownership by state ranges from Alaska’s high of 61.7 percent to the lows of Delaware’s 5.2 percent. Most gun owners were white males 55 and above (guilty!) and the majority were married (Guilty and sentenced to life.)

Anti-gunners have claimed for years that rising gun sales, soaring concealed carry applications, and record breaking background check figures all indicate that gun ownership was shrinking. The  2014 General Social Survey study claimed that approximately 1 in 5 Americans owned a gun and that the number was diminishing.

None of the studies seem to take into account that Americans often refuse to admit to owning a gun when asked by an unrecognized voice on the telephone (Oh so guilty!)

‘Muricans Don’t Want Gun Control Discussed in 2016 Elections

A Suffolk University/USA TODAY survey finds that Americans do not want gun control to be a significant portion of the 2016 election discussions. The survey was performed just a week after the attack on the Charleston Emanuel AME church. 52 to 43% do not want further gun control discussions. Similarly, 56 to 40% do not believe expanded background checks would reduce mass shootings.

The Suffolk study comes months after the PEW study that found the majority of Americans supported gun rights rather than more gun control: 52 to 46%. The Suffolk study supports the PEW study and further confounds the challenges by Bloomberg and the Huffington Post.

You know, it’s a bit disconcerting, although nice, to be in the majority for a change.  ;^)’

Chris P. Cream Christie Creates Panel to Delay Changes to NJ Gun Laws

Showing none of the aggressive, decisive behavior he’s known for around the buffet table, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has created a panel to recommend possible changes to New Jersey gun laws. This is a rather transparent way of avoiding any of the substantive changes he could make to New Jersey’s abusive and unConstitutional gun laws. Christie is obviously feeling a little pressure in his ample hindquarters from the Carol Bowne killing. Her tragic death points a finger at New Jersey’s deliberate mishandling of the CCW permit process.

Show friend Frank Fiamingo of the New Jersey Second Amendment Society believes that Christie could write an executive order accepting self-defense as a justifiable need to carry arms. Christie could also address the unlawful delays in answering the request for a CCW.

Christie’s use of the advisory panel is just a way of providing cover while he attempts to position himself as a conservative presidential candidate. It is disingenuous in the extreme, disrespectful of the memory of Carol Bowne, and smacks of contempt for lawful gun owners and the Second Amendment. It will be a cold day in the fat farm before many gun owners vote for Christie. Choke on your overfed ambitions, big guy.

What to Do When Your Doctor Asks About Your Guns
Doctors for Responsible Gun Ownership  (DR GO) is out with recommendations of what to do when your doctor asks about your guns. Surprisingly, they don’t recommend lying like a rug, but instead favor a graduated response ranging from a polite refusal to answer the questions to submitting a complaint to the doctor’s licensing board. It’s all very interesting reading, especially when the Feds have access to everyone’s medical records. The link can be found in the show notes.

damn lies and statistics

The tyrant Joseph Stalin famously said “Those who cast the votes decide nothing. Those who count the votes decide everything.”  The same can be said of statistics when the United States murder rate is compared to other countries.

For example, England and Wales do not count murders in their statistic unless there’s a conviction. The U.S. could cut its murder statistics in half simply by adopting the same practice.  That shows that country to country comparisons are hardly comparing apples with apples.  What these statistics won’t show us is that the trend in homicide with a firearm have been going down in the US as gun ownership increased, and going up in Britain as they banned civilian ownership of handguns.  Gun-related crime has doubled in England and Wales in the past ten years.  While the armed homicide rate in the US dropped by 40 percent over the last 25 years.

CNN Anchor Saved By The Gun

Thank you to listener Anthony for sending this in.

It’s fortunate that two former CNN On-Air personalities didn’t believe the anti-gun rhetoric spouted by their past employer. CNN anchor Lynne Russell and her correspondent husband Chuck de Caro were robbed late one night in an Albuquerque motel. Their assailant was a convicted criminal wanted for violating his Memphis parole.

Russell had left the hotel room to get something from her car. Tomorio Walton surprised Russell with a gun to the head and forced her back into the room, throwing her on the bed and demanding her valuables. de Caro emerged naked and dripping from the shower into that desperate scene. Russell relates; “The man was just wild. He was pointing the gun, and the way that he was acting, it was as if he’d done it before. I suddenly realized that it wouldn’t bother him at all to pull the trigger.” Fortunately, both Russell and de Capo were concealed carry permit holders and had their firearms in the motel room.
For a time, it looked like the thief would be content with de Caro’s briefcase. But he turned around and opened fire. “My husband returned fire. And he’s a better shot.” said Russell. Police reported that multiple rounds were fired by each man. de Caro was hit twice in the abdomen and once in the leg. However, he was indeed the better shot, as the assailant stopped his attack and staggered into the parking lot, where he died. de Caro was taken to an area hospital and is expected to make a complete recovery.

Many media outlets reported that Russell and de Caro had CCW permits. Although, the ever-partisan New York Times hid the the fact of their CCW permits in the story’s last paragraph. CNN conveniently forgot to mention that their former employees were legally carrying firearms. However, we will commend Russell and de Caro for recognizing that the Cable New Network’s anti-gun agitprop was and is the stuff of nonsense. Believing that idiocy can get you killed — on the street — or in a Motel 6.

One Dead, One Wounded, Five Saved in Las Vegas

Using the ol’ “My car is broken, can I use your phone?” ploy, a woman tricked a child into opening the front door of a Las Vegas home.  Her armed accomplice rushed past Tiffany Carter, AKA Tarnesha Harris, who had forced the door and grabbed the child to silence him. Armed with a stolen pistol, Willie M. Pro ran down a hallway and kicked open the door of a bedroom.

That’s when their carefully planned home invasion was literally blown off the rails.

Behind Door Number One was Jesus Sanchez. Jesus was armed. Jesus! (You shouldn’t include the exclamation. It was too tempting for an itinerant wordsmith. ;^)’  ) Pro staggered back into the hallway, wounded. However, he still had his handgun, and with the child nearby and in danger, Sanchez fired another telling shot. The badly wounded suspect dropped his pistol, turned and ran toward his getaway vehicle.

The 12-year-old managed to get Harris’ hands from his mouth and scream for help. A  mother’s instinct drove Sofia Velado from her bedroom. The obsessively-focused Harris ran into the room to steal Velado’s purse. Once back in the hallway, Harris struggled with Velador, forcing several shots by Sanchez. Finally breaking off her attack, the wounded Harris crawled to the car and escaped. But not before Sanchez fired a shot from an AK-47 at the fleeing felons.

Police arrived at the home several minutes later to find Sanchez outside, standing guard with his AK-47. Fortunately, he immediately followed the cops’ instructions and dropped the rifle. While evaluating the confusing scene, police received a call from a hospital about two people with multiple gunshot wounds. Willie M. Pro died from his wounds. Harris was flown to a trauma center in critical condition.

Tarnesha Harris will likely survive her gunshots. She has been booked for conspiracy, attempted murder, home invasion and robbery, all with a deadly weapon. She and her deceased accomplice were found to possess extensive criminal records, although relatively little punishment. Thanks to the actions of Jesus, the Velador family survived their hellish home-invasion.

There’s a lot to be learned from this chaotic self-defense situation: Never allow a door to be opened for a stranger. Have a weapon at the ready. Criminals may stick to their goals even when the stuffing has hit the fan. Pistols are not guaranteed stoppers. When you can, go for the long-gun. Follow the cops’ commands immediately. And when the criminals break off their attack and are no longer a threat, for dog’s sake, let them go. All that being said, we unreservedly commend Sanchez for his actions which saved the four other members of his family.

Man Shoots Grandma and Pays for It

Degarrian Santonia Coleman, 31, was driving with his grandmother in Charlotte, North Carolina Tuesday morning when he got into an argument with her. The argument became heated and Coleman shot his grandmother in the leg causing her to crash her car into a telephone pole. Hearing the crash, Steve Sellers, a former Mecklenburg County prosecutor, came out to investigate.

He saw Coleman still holding the gun on his grandmother. Sellers told Coleman to drop the firearm and when Coleman didn’t, shot him. Both Coleman and his grandmother were taken to Carolinas Medical Center where Coleman later died. His grandmother is expected to recover.

While the case is being reviewed by the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Office, North Carolina law allows you to intervene if someone’s life is being threatened.

Rob- Pro-tip- Don’t shoot your driver.

Alabama Home Invasion Goes Bad….For The Home Invaders

Two armed home invaders kicked in the door of a Tuscaloosa, Alabama apartment on Monday afternoon. This awoke the tenant who was sleeping in his second-floor apartment. Fortunately, he was able to arm himself with a handgun. The would-be victim shot one of the alleged burglars, and both suspects ran out of the apartment and jumped over the second floor railing trying to flee the scene.

Courtney Campbell, 24, died of his wounds in the parking lot of the complex. His accomplice, Marcus McCall, 25, broke several bones in his jump but was still able to drive away. The tenant immediately called police with a description of McCall and the getaway car. They stopped him less than a mile away. He was booked after treatment for his injuries at a local hospital.

McCall is charged with 1st Degree Burglary as well as Felony Murder. The murder charge comes because his accomplice died in the commission of the crime.

Police do not intend to charge the tenant. Alabama’s “stand your ground” law allows people to use deadly force against a burglar who is about to use deadly physical force. The head of the Tuscaloosa Homicide Unit said that both Campbell and McCall were armed and had covered their faces with a bandanna and a hoodie. He also also said the tenant appears to have known one of the home invaders.

Rob, do you have any new posts from your SlowFacts blog you want to mention?

Last week I wrote an article about the fantasy of gun control.  I said gun control advocates were crazy.  This week I wrote about the reality of gun control and said gun control advocates were liars.  The article is titled “Is That Common Sense Gun Control.. or More Spin?”  I also reposted articles by Kurt Hofmann and Russell Smith.  I recommend them.

My next article is about this golden age of self-defense instruction, and I’d like to thank Kathy Jackson for the sanity check, and thank Mark Richardson at the NRA for the statistics.  You can find my articles at Ammoland, at Clash Daily, and on my blog at Slowfacts dot wordpress dot com.

John do you want to mention anything off of your blog, No Lawyer – Only Guns and Money you would like to talk about?

We have talked about the efforts to recall NJ Senate President Stephen Sweeney a number of times. The effort caught the attention of the newspapers in New Jersey. As with most stories relating to gun control, they had to have a comment from the gun prohibitionists for “balance”. I think the guy that they quoted, Bryan Miller of Ceasefire NJ, must have had the taste of sour grapes in his mouth. He said that having 200 people at the NJ2AS event wasn’t “an impressive number”. Actually, I think he was jealous because the gun grabbers never get that many people at their events even when they pay them and bus them in.

You can read this and other posts at onlygunsandmoney DOT blogspot DOT com.

We would like to thank Charlie Foxtrot for writing up show notes for us. Even though you don’t hear him on the air he is a big part of what you get to hear. look his blog up at not one more gun law dot blogspot dot com

Personal news from each participant
Paul: The only thing gun related I got to do since the last time we recorded was to inform an officer of the Joplin PD that I was carrying. He told me thanks!

John: No gun news to report but I did book my room for the NRA Annual Meeting in Indianapolis which is being held April 25-27. If you are anywhere near Indy, I’d suggest trying to at least make a day trip of it. As Rob can attest, it is a great experience.

Rachel: Nothing much. Just staffed the Appleseed booth at the national AG&AG conference in Waco Thursday through Sunday, had my County convention on Saturday (and was responsible for some drama there), a bunch of activists I trained did better at making stuff happen in their conventions than I did in mine, and now I’m prepping for the Appleseed shoot I’m shoot bossing in San Antonio this weekend. Working with Texas Law Shield on some projects with TFF. Nothing to see here, just everyday work….

“I will not comply” Rant

I personally love the “I will not comply” attitude when it comes to confiscation of firearms. It after all is the one final answer that we all can give that lets the politicians know the really very limited power that they do have. However there are a few things that I would like to bring out and explore around this. #1 If you say it, mean it, and know what it means. Unfortunately there are a lot of “mall ninjas” that hang around the firearms and Second Amendment arena. They want the toys, they want the cool stuff, but when it comes time to do the work they are no where to be found. These are the same people who when you ask, “Are you an NRA member?” give you some BS answer about not wanting to be on a list or being angry about something the NRA did in the mid 60’s to mid 80’s. You then ask if they are a SAF member and they give you a blank stare, trying to think of what the SAF is. A lot of these people are now the ones screaming out “Molon Labe! I will not comply!”

Let’s explore what will – and I did say WILL happen when you don’t comply.

1) – They will come for you. Eventually some form of law enforcement will show up, and if you are lucky you will get a knock on your door and your stuff will be confiscated and you will go to jail. If you are unlucky the door will explode open and the shock troops will come in and take the house or your place of business in a no-knock raid.

#2) If you think that the weapons charge is the only thing that they will charge you with (should you survive the arrest) then you are sorely mistaken. Should it come to the point where they are starting to confiscate weapons they are going to try to make all arrests look like they are going after the dregs of society. Have you ever been a little late filing with the IRS? Did you once have a little bit too much to drink before driving home and plead that down to a misdemeanor? Have you always returned every library book on time? They are going to dig VERY deep before the raid to make sure that they can make you look bad when they parade you in front of the media.

#3) The rest of the gun owning public won’t charge in and break you out of jail. At least at the very beginning the rest of us will be worried about ourselves and what we are are doing to keep our families safe. We will see the storm clouds brewing and be preparing for the storm. Let’s go back to the pre revolutionary war period. The shot heard ‘round the world was not the British regulars first attempt at confiscation. The Boston Massacre occurred 5 years before the battle of Lexington and Concord. I do not expect a 5 year build up, but it happened then, and I don’t expect 1 incident to bring the ire of 100 million plus gun owners to the surface immediately.

4) If you say it, and you mean it, know that many, many of us stand with you. Even with all that I have said, and all of the horribleness that will fall upon those that are victimised first know that there really are many of us in the 100 plus million gun owners that truly do stand with you. I know that Anthony Colandro meant it when he said it. There are many more whom I believe when I hear them say it. I hope that soon our voices will reach the right places and true change can happen. We ARE winning the fight for our rights, slowly and with some setbacks, but we are winning. I believe there will come a time in my lifetime when the 2nd Amendment will be my carry permit, and the 14th Amendment will be my reciprocity agreement. But for now we are threatened in many areas with laws that would make criminals of us.

In every battle there are casualties. Every soldier that volunteers to put on the uniform for our country knows that they could be injured or killed in their service. What I am asking is for every gun owner to become a soldier for our rights. It could be costly for you. You could be arrested, you could lose your reputation. You could lose a lot more. Know this before taking up the cause. If you say “I will not comply” and “MOLON LABE” then in my opinion you MUST belong to the NRA and The SAF. You MUST be registered to vote and YOU MUST VOTE! We have a chance to turn things our direction this November peaceably, but of you are not participating you are nothing but a mall ninja in the 2A world wanting the cool stuff without doing any of the work that comes with it.

Paul- A California state senator who both represents San Francisco, and who enthusiastically authored gun control legislation was arrested after he asked for campaign donations in exchange for introducing an undercover FBI agent to an arms trafficker.  The allegations against State Sen. Leland Yee were outlined in an FBI affidavit in support of a criminal complaint. The affidavit accuses Yee of conspiracy to deal firearms without a license and to illegally import firearms.  Yee is also accused wire fraud for accepting tens of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions and cash payments to provide introductions, help a client get a contract and influence legislation.  Yee discussed helping the FBI agent get weapons worth $500,000 to $2.5 million, including shoulder fired automatic weapons and missiles, and took him through the entire process of getting them from a Muslim separatist group in the Philippines to the United States. http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/fbi-california-state-sen-leland-yee-arrested-23068331

Rob’s comment- Timothy Sullivan, a notoriously corrupt Tammany Hall politician,

John-  John Lott said “Our soldiers need protection on base.. and should be armed. Currently, soldiers on military bases are not allowed to carry guns. Indeed, the military specifically forbids personnel from carrying firearms for personal protection except when “a credible and specific threat against [military] personnel [exists] in that region.”

That sounds like the same “justifiable need” statement they use in California, New Jersey and Maryland.  That is why, during the Navy yard shooting, the unarmed soldiers, sailors  and marines could do nothing but cower as the shooter fired round after round. For perspective, military bases have relatively few military police since crime rates on bases are normally low.  And it was a similar story in 2009 at Fort Hood. Maj. Nidal Hasan was unchallenged as he stood on a desk and kept shooting down victim after victim in work cubicles at Fort Hood, Texas. http://triblive.com/opinion/featuredcommentary/5795440-74/bases-ducks-military#ixzz2x6Y8Gdcu

Rachel- Don’t put your faith in judges.  Washington DC resident Mark Witaschek was convicted of having unlawful ammunition for a muzzle loading rifle.. the same rifle that does not require registration in DC.  That means you have to register your rifle that doesn’t require registration.. so you can register the rifle’s ammunition.  The judge didn’t know guns from gorillas.  Judge Robert Morin sentenced Mr. Witaschek to time served, a $50 fine and required him to enroll with the Metropolitan Police Department’s firearm offenders’ registry within 48 hours.  The case will cost Witaschek hundreds of thousands of dollars. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2014/mar/26/miller-exclusive-shock-verdict-mark-witaschek-guil/

John -You may now record the police in Illinois after this court ruling from the Illinois supreme court. A non-english speaker was imprisoned for over 20 months after recording a conversation with a court reporter supervisor. http://www.gunssavelife.com/?p=11655

Rob- About 150 attendees filed into Lansingburgh’s Grace Baptist Church this past Sunday to hear Pastor John Koletas’ hymn and enter a raffle to win an AR-15 rifle, the Times Union reported.

Pastor Koletas preached in front of a large American flag and had a right-to-bear-arms-text hanging on the walls of the church.  This is at least the second raffle of the month.  “We have our Constitution to protect us, but we have our liberty to protect ourselves,” Koletas said during Sunday’s service.  Churchgoers were relatively calm and quiet as they filled the pews and submitted their names for the raffle.  42-year-old Schenectady resident Ron Stafford won the rifle, valued between $800 and $1,200.

Paul -If you were so foolish as to trust an Illinois politician, please please think again.  The first batch of carry license denial letters have gone out from the Illinois State Police.  As feared, the letters  do not specify which agency filed an objection, the contents of the objection or specifically how the individual is a danger to themselves and/or public safety. In short, what we’ve got is a “may issue” licensing scheme, crafted by House Speaker Michael Madigan, where anti-gun local officials can reject license applications for any reason at all.  NRA’s lawyers are putting together their legal response. http://www.gunssavelife.com/?p=11646

John- The National Shooting Sports Foundation does not send out alerts or “take action” notices very often. In fact, they’re rare. When they do urge action, it’s usually a significant issue.  Last week the NSSF asked gun owners to contact their senators to stop Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s attempt to force the Administration into issuing an executive order banning the importation of certain semi-auto modern sporting rifles. http://thegunwriter.blogs.heraldtribune.com/16133/senators-want-exec-order-banning-import-of-semi-auto-rifles/  (Rob has a comment)

John -This is why you lock your doors and try to retreat.  A Houston firefighter returning home from a night of St. Patrick’s Day partying was shot and killed by his next-door neighbor when he tried to enter the wrong house.  27 year old Sam Keen was asked to leave the bar so his friends put him in a cab.  The cab stopped next door, rather than in front of Keen’s house. Keen couldn’t find his way home and entered the wrong house.  http://www.cbsnews.com/news/off-duty-houston-firefighter-shot-dead-by-neighbor/

Rob – Idaho is part of a growing number of states that are seeking to nullify federal firearms laws. Congratulations to Idaho on being among the first to actually pass a nullification bill. Their bill, S1332, was signed by the governor last week and applies to future federal law. Specifically, this bill is designed to “protect Idaho law enforcement officers from being directed, through federal executive orders, agency orders, statutes, laws, rules, or regulations enacted or promulgated on or after the effective date of this act, to violate their oath of office and Idaho citizens’ rights under Section 11, Article I, of the Constitution of the State of Idaho.” Violators will be fined $1,000.

Rachel –  A couple weeks ago, we had Keith Morgan from WVCDL on the show to talk about the success of their group’s intense efforts to get SB317 through the WV legislature. SB317 is the state preemption bill for gun carry laws. After we spoke, they had to engage in another battle when there was a question about whether the governor would actually sign the bill. They’ve been working feverishly to get his signature – that finally happened yesterday. Kudos to the grassroots activists at WVCDL.

West Virginia Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin’s statement: “This evening, I signed Senate Bill 317 because I support our 2nd Amendment rights, and I also see the need for uniform and consistent gun laws throughout the state. I believe this legislation will give municipalities clarity for regulating firearms in their facilities.”

John DGU- Near Detroit, a Jet’s Pizza delivery driver shot back after he was robbed at gunpoint at about 11 p.m. Saturday in Redford.  The victim was making a delivery to a residence where two men posed as customers.  One of the men grabbed the driver and the other man showed a handgun and demanded the victim’s money.  The legally armed delivery driver shot the suspects.  The uninjured driver left the area and called 911.  The robbers also fled in a waiting vehicle. One of the men was later found at a local hospital with multiple gunshot wounds, and another man was arrested Monday night, police reports said.  The injured suspect, Clarence Sanders, 27, of Detroit, was arraigned Monday in the hospital on a charge of armed robbery, according to Redford Police.

A warrant request is being prepared on the second suspect.

Rachel DGU- An adult man was killed in a shooting in Bakersfield, California and another was escorted from a home and  placed in a police vehicle. The Bakersfield Police Department said that at about 4:51 a.m., Shawn Christian Ibarra, 35, armed himself with a breaker bar and kicked in the front door. He was then shot by another man in the house, which resulted in the death of Ibarra. Ibarra was on Post Release Community Supervision.. commonly called “early release” from prison.  Police believe the homeowners and Ibarra knew one another. http://www.turnto23.com/news/local-news/person-suffered-major-injuries-in-incident-in-northeast-bakersfield-police-say-032414

Paul DGU- An intruder called 911 after he was shot during a break in attempt, in Iberia Parish, Louisiana.  Charles Prince attempted to break into a balcony bedroom at a home on East Admiral Doyle Drive.  Prince woke the victim, who grabbed a handgun and fired 2 shots at Prince, hitting him once in the arm.  The homeowner called the Sheriff’s Office around 8:39 p.m. and explained that he had shot at an intruder.  Shortly afterward, the Sheriff received a 911 call from Prince who said he had been shot near the victim’s home.  Prince was transported to the Iberia Medical Center, and will be charged with Unauthorized Entry of an Inhabited Dwelling.

Rob DGU- Michael Huston, 26, faces one count of residential burglary and one count of possession of burglary tools, both felonies, according to the Kane County Illinois Sheriff’s office. Huston broke into a house and was shot by the homeowner.  Huston was found by sheriff’s deputies a few blocks away from the burglary and taken to Delnor Community Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  The 43-year-old homeowner was alone at home at the time, and has a valid Illinois FOID card.

Rob DGU NSF- A group of boys, one as young as 13, tried breaking into a home Sunday on Bedford Street in Detroit. His house was robbed the day before, but this time Gregory Lindsey was home. Mister Lindsey’s son was downstairs doing homework when he heard banging on the door. Outside, five or six young boys were trying to get in. The homeowner took his semi- auto 22 and ran out the front door. “Lots of them scattered, but I caught one,” Lindsey said. For 20 minutes the teen sat on Lindsey’s porch at gunpoint, until police arrived. “He was kind of scared but it’s a lesson that needs to be learned because too many kids are going to people’s houses and getting shot now… Whoever got through that door would absolutely have been shot.”

Hi Everyone,

I haven’t had a reason to write to the show before but something Rob said on episode 222 compelled me to compose this. After mentioning the James Kaleda situation again and that his defense fund was coming up short I feel it would be wise to bring one of my few moments of shear brilliance to your attention. I call it $22 for 2A.

It really started about 2 weeks ago when the phone rang while listening to another podcast that just happened to be discussing this injustice at that exact moment . While checking the caller ID I realized the number 2 and letter A are on the same key. Thats when the light bulb came on.

Here’s how it works – it’s sort of a challenge to all those keyboard commandos out there. What you do is wait until the lottery jackpot gets a little bigger before buying a ticket, maybe leave the range with some extra ammo instead of having to buy and use an entire case each time. Take that money you didn’t spend and send $22 to the James Kaleda defense fund. I’m sure Rob will put it the show notes for those that may be google challenged.

It goes without saying that James stuck his neck out for anyone, anywhere, that owns a firearm or believes in the right to self defense. He deserves our support. I’ve donated and I don’t even live in the US.

Progressive socialism – the kind that seeks to strip you of your rights and make everyone dependant on government knows no borders. It’s like a septic pile of black goo that oozes it’s way around the world. When one nation has a brain cramp on firearms laws it would not surprise me if some faceless beauracrat at the UN is immediately spreading the word to other countries – saying…”You should try this.”. The border between Canada and the USA is really just a line on the map used to collect taxes. When something happens in one country the other is likely to follow. I don’t need to mention what is going on in Connecticut, New York, and our own issues with the CZ-858/Swiss Classic Green and Canada’s largest street gang – the RCMP.

Thanks for mentioning us and our troubles north of the 49th. It reassuring to know we’re not alone.

In the words of a great Canadian comic, Red Green, “Remember I’m pullin’ for ya; were all in this together.”.

Until next time,

Chris – Typing from the Peoples Republic of Canada.

Paul: John, do you have any post on your blog you want to mention?

John: I did a post earlier this week about the Jefferson County Arkansas Sheriffs’ Department. You know how anti-gun police and sheriffs’ departments have gun buybacks? Well, they had a gun auction that netted them over $125,000! I call it the anti-anti-gun buyback. Even better was was this statement from the JCSD: “Today’s auction provided citizens an informative, secure, and safe way to buy firearms at a bargain.” Well said, JCSD, well said.
