Paul: episode 450 of the Polite Society Podcast starts right now.
Show intro music.
Personal news from each participant (when you are done with your segment please ask the next person what has been up with them)
Rob- Bill Frady on his Lock and Load Radio program. I was on Dan and Cheryl Todd’s Gun Freedom Radio and Charles Heller’s radio program America Armed and Free to talk about mass murderers in schools. I recorded another Episode of Self-Defense Gun Stories. Another thousand rounds came in for a training course I’m taking next week.
Paul – they need to re-name Bill Fredy’s show Lock and Load with Bill Fredy and Rob Morse
John- Given that the gun prohibitionists wanted people to wear orange this past weekend, I made sure to wear a black tee with Molon Labe on it. Actually, I didn’t see anyone wearing orange in protest but I probably just wasn’t near any TV cameras. Other than that we had a quiet week. If anyone has come across a Savage 110 bolt action rifle in .30-06 cheap, let me know at firstname.lastname@example.org. It can have a crummy stock and a shot out barrel. I want the action and bolt for a project. Did I mention I’m looking for CHEAP?
Rachel- Did you see Rachel’s video done by Sarah Cade? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MqCWBlbbk5g
Promo about upcoming training classes here.
PATCHES: We still have some PSP patches left. They are $10 for 1 or $18 for two with all proceeds going to the Second Amendment Foundation. You can send PayPal to email@example.com or, if you want to send a check, send me an email at the address and I’ll tell you where to mail it.

Rob=IDAHO PARENTS RESPOND TO SCHOOL LOCKDOWN BY COMING TO THE SCHOOL ARMED
It was probably only a matter of time before parents, frustrated at what they see as inaction on behalf of school boards, and inept and sometimes cowardly law enforcement behaviour, would decide that they were the best people to to protect their children.
This happened in Idaho recently. A school lockdown was called on the belief that an armed student was loose in the school and when the news got out, parents began arriving at the school armed with their handguns and rifles, believing that their children were in danger. One parent bearing a drawn pistol heatedly confronted a State Trooper. The Trooper persuaded the man to remove himself from school grounds (the man later apologized).
Janitorial staff prevented other armed parents from entering the school grounds by blocking roads with school vehicles
Bannock County Sheriff Lorin Neilsen, whose men deployed to the school said that armed members of the public who respond in this way put themselves in danger of being mistaken as the active shooter and shot by officers. He also added that those parents who did “self-deploy” could have been arrested (although they were not).
In the end, the incident turned out to have involved a petty verbal dispute between teenagers and no firearms were involved.
Listeners. This is a troubling but somehow understandable development. When we lose confidence in those we appoint to protect our children we wish to act, but at the same time, doing so can confuse and escalate a situation. It seems that Sheriff Neilsen’s officers acted with great discretion and restraint in unexpected and difficult circumstances.
Paul – I can almost understand the parents rushing to the school but this is Idaho not Florida
Rob- Your children have to go to school, or you’ll be arrested. The police then said they have NO LEGAL DUTY to protect those children.
John – Prof William Forstchen wrote a book called Day of Wrath. It involved ISIS terrorist attacking schools.
INSERTING RANT HERE
Rob- What do people do when their children have mental health problems? I know parents who ran out of money, time and ideas. Can we create a fund to help parents with troubled children.
John- SEVEN HUNDRED WOMEN TRAINED TO OPERATE A 9mm HANDGUN SAFELY, IN ONE DAY
Listeners, you may not have heard of “Legally Armed in Detroit”. It is a gun rights advocacy group that for the last seven years has been offering free range and firearms safety training to women in the metro-Detroit area.
The event introduces women to firearms in a safe and supportive environment. It teaches basic firearms safety, good shooting stance, elements of marksmanship, and includes live fire. This year, they trained a record seven hundred women in one day.
The program was conceived by Rick Ector, a Detroit area gun rights advocate. He recounts how he was inspired to think about how women might be made safer when he saw a TV news story about a woman who had been murdered and then her body was dumped in an open lot. He came up with the idea of offering a free shooting lesson for women. He said that it was important for women because they are “easier targets” for predators.
“The world is getting so bad I have to defend myself” said one participant. “It’s rough out there,” added another.
Training took place at the Top Gun shooting range in Taylor, Michigan. The women were brought into groups and taken through the safety briefing and other classroom elements. Then each was paired one-on-one with a firearms instructor for their range session. There, they loaded 20 rounds and fired them on standard range targets. The close supervision allowed individual feedback to be given to every woman.
There were no injuries or accidents.
Trainers were certified by NRA, USCCA, Michigan Gun Owners, Michigan Open Carry. the National African American Gun Association, and Legally Armed in Detroit. One instructor said that learning to shoot was “..a skill set that could potentially keep them and their families safe.”
The first year, 50 women came. Then 100, then more and last year 600, and now this year a new record 700 women registered to take advantage of the program, and launch themselves into the world of firearms use, and self-protection.
Listeners, this is a great example of how one person, with the motivation to serve his or her community, can make a huge difference.
Rob- I love what Rick is doing. He is bringing new women into our gun culture. He’s bringing the gun culture together to train these women.
Paul – I have the greatest respect for Rick and will be trying to get him on the show again in the near future. This is EXACTLY what we advocate for gun people to do. Bring new people to our ranks
John – Rick also gave out 700 gun locks. When I spoke with him he was having trouble getting NSSF to send the gun locks but I’m assuming he solved that issue.
Lloyd- YES, THEY *ARE* COMING FOR YOUR GUNS… PART 42.. Or is it 43… or 143… or the number of burgers sold at Micky-Dee’s..
Listeners, we have heard all sorts of weasel words and trite little homilies about how Democrats aren’t “coming for your guns” and just want “common sense” laws. This of course is despite Diane Feinstein’s famous comment about “Mr and MRs America, turn them all in”.
Well, once again in California, home of the Bullet Button, additional antigun legislation advanced. Senator Anthony Portantino shepherded a Bill through to law that raises the minimum age for purchase of any firearm to 21, and limits all firearm sales to 1 per month for any individual.
He said, “If DC won’t act, CALIFORNIA will”. He praised the Brady Campaign. The bill passed the CA Senate 23 to 10 and now heads to the CA Assembly. CA Senate Republican Jim Neilsen on the other hand said that the senate “..would be better off focusing on criminal gangs…. who he argues would be able to get their hands on guns regardless of age restrictions.
It should be noted that a recent study from the Rockerfeller Institute of Government showed that “..the average age of mass shooters is 33.4 years..”, and cite “..intense and often unbalanced media coverage..” leading to “..disproportional attitudes about the events themselves..” being held by the public
The antigunners are wily. They use the media, and selective reporting to pressure the legislators we vote into office to vote against their promises to us, and our interests.
Listeners, don’t believe when you hear that the gun controllers and gun banners aren’t winning. They are.
Rob- Mark Walters had an article where he talked about the double standard of young people who want to vote, but not to protect those they love.
John – Anything coming out of the Rockefeller IOG is suspect. They are allied with States United for Gun Safety.
John – These kids are the gun control equivalent of Mao’s Red Guard.
Gary – Gun Quotes– Nobody has to put up with aggression and surrender his right of self-defense for fear of hurting somebody else, guilty or innocent. When someone comes at you with a gun, if you have one ounce of self-esteem, you will answer him by force.. Ayn Rand 1972
Hang on everybody, we’ll be back with our guests (John Correa and Lloyd Bailey).
3- Interview 1 John P Correia
4- Interview 2 Lloyd R Bailey Jr.
5- DGUs (at beginning) These discussions are NOT legal advice. Some of us are trainers, but this is not formal training and YOU NEED formal training. The Defensive Gun Use segment is intended as information, NOT as training. As always the opinions of the hosts are only their own opinions and not those of any sponsors or other affiliations.
John – Memphis, Tennessee
A father and daughter were sharing a moment together with a quick stop at a local McDonalds. As the two left, their lives changed forever.
What started with being asked for a lighter, progressed to the father being choked out from behind and hit in the face. At the same time, the 21-year-old father was holding his 1-year-old daughter in his arm.
When the four men attacked him, he was able to “throw” her in the car and get his gun from under the seat of the car. All this while being choked and pistol whipped.
He was able to shoot one of the attackers in each leg before being disarmed by an attacker. The newly armed assailant pointed this gun at his head. He pulled the trigger. As Bob Mayne says, “the loudest sound is a bang when you are expecting none and a click when you are expecting a bang.” In this case, it was a click. The gun jammed.
The assailants quickly drove off but stopped at a fire station two miles away where they were taken into custody.
Paul – Nashville, Tennessee
Three armed teens are on the run after a bump and rob attempt was interrupted.
The suspects were following a female victim when they bumped her car as she pulled into an alley near the ownhome where her son resides. The victim continued on to the parking area behind her son’s home and began honking her horn.
Her son came out armed and one of the three thugs allegedly fired the first shot. The son fired three times and the suspects fled the scene. No injuries were reported.
The three were also linked to other crimes, a robbery of a pedestrian and another bump-and-rob. When the victim exited his vehicle, a gunman got out of the rear seat and yelled to “get in his car”. The intended victim jumped back in and drove off at a high rate of speed and was pulled over by an officer where he reported the attempted robbery.
Gary – Oklahoma City , Oklahoma
What started out as a time for a meal and socializing ended with three people wounded and the gunman dead. The unnamed shooter walked into Louie’s Bar and Grill and opened fire. While the man was busy shooting up the restaurant, two men, Juan Carlos Nazario and Bryan Whittle were retrieving their firearms from their cars. The two were working independently.
The two confronted the shooter and immediately terminated the dangerous situation.
Both men stated that they were not trying to be heroic but rather were just doing what needed to be done to stop the threat.
All patrons injured during the shooting are in good condition and expected to survive.
The FBI reviewed its databases and found it had received tips at two different times about the shooters YouTube channel. In both cases the agency determined that the content was First Amendment protected speech.
John – Shannon Watts is criticizing this because these weren’t “average” armed citizens due to their either National Guard or LEO backgrounds.
Paul – I wonder if OK allows carry in bars? No http://www.handgunlaw.us/states/oklahoma.pdf

Hey guys here’s an email for you since you been begging for one.
So I belong to the NRA as well as Second Amendment Foundation but keep on getting solicitations from other organizations such as GOAL, CCKBA etc limited amount of funds not really able to give something to everybody what would be the top 3 or maybe 4 organizations that you think it’s best to belong to to help keep our gun rights
Also it’s a little too late for this year I had a voicemail that disappeared into the abyss from your podcast if you would recommend who might be good people to vote for for NRA board members when it comes around next year I catch good names from various podcast but since I usually don’t listen to them while I’m sitting at a desk with a writing stick in my hand I can’t always keep them available when it’s time to vote love for you to make some recommendations in the winter or before the voting takes place.
Thanks for all you DO,
Mel from the Midwest
Rob- Jeff Knox does a great review every year of the nra candidates. Crime Prevention Research Center,
John – NRA, SAF, and the most active state level group in your state. It may not necessarily be the NRA affiliated group. And of course the Firearms Policy Coalition.
Paul – – SAF – Your local (State) organization NRA – FPC – Really anyone BUT NAGR
Dear Paul and Company,
It’s been a while since you stopped doing the news section of your podcast and I must say that I for one really miss it. Your audience realizes that you’re not able to get breaking news to us as quickly as some other sources but that’s not why we listen to your podcast. We can get the bare-bones information from many places but we can only get your analysis of the news and how it affects other defensive gun owners from your podcast. The fact that the information may be a few days or even weeks old doesn’t lessen the value of the input given by you and your cohorts. Information does not equal knowledge. It takes time, details and a lifetime of experience for information to be transformed into knowledge. That’s the value that you and the other participants of your podcast provide. I sincerely hope that you will bring back the newscast segment soon.
Keep up the good work. And by the way, even if we don’t email you that doesn’t mean that we’re not listening!
Roger at Sheepdog Firearm Training LLC
I heard you needed emails so I decided to write in. I can’t remember if you have talked about Project Appleseed before but I recently took one of their two day classes in Ohio. The weather didn’t cooperate but the shoot bosses did a good job and I learned a lot. They focus on using a sling to find your natural point of aim. We spent a lot of time standing, sitting and in the prone position. Overall it was a good experience and I managed to get my rifleman patch which I was pretty proud of. For the price (mine was $60), I don’t think you can beat the training and the history lessons were fun too. Take care and keep up the good work.
Rob- Congratulations on getting your patch on the first try.
Paul: Rob, do you have any new posts from your SlowFacts blog you want to mention?
Rob- I wrote about the media’s role in building mass murderers, and what we should do when they come to our schools and churches. That article is called, “Best Practice to save our students from Mass Murderers.”
You might remember that teens used to commit suicide so their name would appear in the news. These were called “Celebrity Suicides.” We learned a little, and stopped mentioning the name of these suicides. Now, we mention their name if they take ten of their fellow students with them. We need to learn a little more, and stop that. Read the articles.
I put a post up saying we in North Carolina don’t want to be California. Anti-gun Democrats in the North Carolina General Assembly are floating a number of gun control bills that have no chance of passage due to the Republican super-majority. The one that really is ridiculous would mandate that NC adopt California’s Handgun Roster as a “safety measure”. That would mean newer Glocks and any of the other newer handguns would be banned from sale or transfer in North Carolina. Give me a break! However, there is a good pro-school safety bill, HB 1039 being introduced that would create a volunteer school guardian program including teachers and that would have an active shooter training component.
That and more is at only guns and money dot blogspot dot com.
Paul: That wraps up another episode of the Polite Society Podcast. I’d like to thank (LLoyd Bailey and John Corriea) for joining us today. So for Amy, Tracy, Belle, Dana, Gary, John, Rachel, Susan, Grant and Rob,
(Paul, stop talking now)
Rob: Until the next time…
Gary: stay safe,
Lloyd: be aware,
John: and we’ll see you down the road.
