Personal news from each participant (when you are done with your segment please ask the next person what has been up with them)

Rob- Bill Frady and I talked politics and guns on his Lock and Load Radio program. I was on Eye on the Target radio with Amanda Suffecool and Bob Cambell. I also recorded another Episode of Self-Defense Gun Stories.

John – I haven’t been deer hunting for something like 40 years. However, my wife inherited a piece of property that looks promising. I spent parts of yesterday putting out a mineral lick and setting up trail cams. I didn’t realize how much the brush had grown up since it was clear cut and replanted. I’ve also been researching brush cutting and bush hogs! Other than that, nothing gun related.

I do have a request for our listeners. The states are where the critical battles for our gun rights are taking place now. Thus, I am attempting to assemble a database of state-level gun rights groups. I know our listeners come from around the United States. If you belong to a gun rights group in your state, please send me an email at john@politicsandguns.com with the state, the name of the group, and contact information for that group.

Paul/Susan Disarmament dance – in CA today and hopefully out tomorrow. Susan not feeling well again, hopefully, will be on the next show.

Got some range time. Practiced long range shooting for the ASID class

2- News

Another deadly school shooting

John – Santa Fe, Texas was the scene of the latest massacre in one of our public schools. On Friday, May 18th a 17-year-old student stole a sawed-off shotgun and a revolver from his father and brought it to school and began to open fire at 7:40 am as the school day was beginning.  From the time the first shot was fired until the suspect was taken into custody seems to have been about 30 minutes.

10 are dead, 2 teachers and 8 students.

Rob- What do Dana Loesch, Grant Stinchfield, and David Hogg have in common? The first two are NRA commentators and the third is the spokes-child for Mom’s demand gun confiscation. All three said that the media created these mass murders at our schools. I ran the numbers. The public relations coverage that we give these murderers is worth billions of dollars. The news media creates these monsters..and our kids are paying the price.

Paul- I’ll take the low hanging fruit here

John – It is not only a media event. The reporting of all the minutiae is nothing more than a how-to guide for wannabe school killers.

Gun Quotes

“There’s no question that weapons in the hands of the public have prevented acts of terror or stopped them.”

– Israeli Police Inspector General Shlomo Aharonisky

Hang on everybody, we’ll be back with our guest Matthew Disher.

4- Interview 2 Matthew Disher of the American Guns Podcast

5- DGUs  (at the beginning) These discussions are NOT legal advice. Some of us are trainers, but this is not formal training and YOU NEED formal training. The Defensive Gun Use segment is intended as information, NOT as training. As always the opinions of the hosts are only their own opinions and not those of any sponsors or other affiliations.

Gary – Decatur, Tennessee
On Mother’s Day morning at 2:15 AM, a man broke into a couple’s home.  The intruder got a knife from the kitchen and attacked the couple. One member of the couple was able to shoot the intruder during a struggle and the thug was pronounced dead at the scene.

The two people injured in the attack were treated for non-life threatening injuries.  None of the people had been identified and no charges have been filed.

Paul –Lake Worth, Florida
A Lake Worth homeowner was awoken at 12:15 AM and spotted an intruder in the second-floor hallway of his home.  The homeowner then shot the intruder in order to defend himself, his wife and their daughter.

When deputies arrived, the homeowner was chasing the criminal behind his home.  They arrested the intruder who stated that it was all a mistake and that he had gone into the wrong house.

The man was treated for a gunshot wound to his right arm then booked into the Palm Beach County Jail.  He was out on bond from a March arrest on drug-related charges.

John – Fort Worth, Texas
Firearms people tend to look down their collective noses at the Hi-Point pistols.  When a Fort Worth man went to meet a seller of an iPhone for his daughter, he took his Hi-Point .380 with him.
While he and his family were at an Easter party, he thought he had found the right deal.  He and his wife packed up their three kids in their SUV and drove to an apartment complex where they were to meet the seller.
He told reports, “I should have gone alone.”
They arrived around 8 PM and the seller was waiting for them.
The father got out of the SUV and was immediately attacked by the seller and 3 other men.  His wife and kids could only sit and watch the beating take place. The victim was able to make his way back to the vehicle and got his “cheap little Hi-Point .380” out of the door.
He fired 5-7 shots at his attackers, wounding 2 and sending the third fleeing. His wife grabbed a screwdriver and attacked one as well.

Gary??Joelton, Tennessee
The 58-year-old gas station clerk was outside to take a break when three armed men approached him.
The clerk was another POGO practitioner.  One of the men pointed a gun at him so he shot the suspect in the stomach.  The other two ditched their friend.
According to police, the clerk then ran inside and grabbed towels and tried to help the man who had just tried to rob him.  He called 911 and then performed CPR.
The suspect was treated and discharged.  He is in police custody and charged with three felony counts.  His associates where still being searched for and may have been responsible for several recent robberies.

Paul -???Multiple locations
A recent report from the FBI detailed how during 2016 – 2017, 8 active shooter incidents were stopped by armed citizens who were not police officers.

Of the 8 incidents, in two, the citizen exchanged fire with the shooters.  This is how a properly trained citizen can be an effective deterrent to mass shootings.  In others, the citizen held the shooters at gunpoint until police arrived.

The most high profile case was the shooting at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas.

This came on the heels of a study of mass shootings dating from 2003 to 2015 which showed that 10 percent were stopped by good guys with guns and nearly 20 percent were stopped by citizens and not the police.

In many cases, just the presentation of the gun to the shooter caused the shooter to take their own life.

Fayetteville, North Carolina
When the two 10-year-old masked robbers entered the BP station shortly before 10 PM, the clerk was prepared.  The clerk had his own firearm and fired toward the robbers, striking one of them. The pair fled the scene.

A little while later, a 911 dispatcher received a call from someone who said their son had been shot.  His mother reported that he had been shot in the back and had been with his friend. When the dispatcher asked who had shot him, he says that he didn’t remember anything.

The mother and the gunshot robber were not very forthcoming with information.  The investigation revealed that the man was the suspect who had been shot by the clerk.

Both robbers have been charged with attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon and felony conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Listener e-mail discussion

Paul: Rob, do you have any new posts from your SlowFacts blog you want to mention?

My articles are up at Clash Daily, at Ammoland, and at my blog, slow facts dot WordPress dot com.  John, tell us what’s new at your blog no lawyers only guns and money.

Someone asked on Facebook should he join the NRA or GOA. I said his state-level group because that is where the gun control action is taking place right now. As an example, the Boulder City Council passed an assault weapons ban and raised the age for purchase of long arms on Tuesday, May 15th unanimously even though Colorado has state preemption. The Mountain States Legal Foundation filed suit in Federal court a day later challenging this action as a violation of the US and Colorado constitutions on a variety of factors including violating the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.

That and more is at only guns and money dot blogspot dot com.
