Show intro music.

Seg 1- Personal news from each participant (when you are done with your segment please ask the next person what has been up with them)

John – Unlike our last podcast, I don’t have tons of gun news. No Quiet Riot Tours this week and no suppressor shoots. I did order some parts for a couple of retro AR builds I’m working on.

More importantly, I’ve bought my plane ticket, reserved my room, and registered for GRPC in Phoenix.

I do have some more news on the class that Doc Wesson and I are hoping to have this fall in NC with Grant Cunningham and Paul Carlson. It will be in mid to late October and will include up to 3 days of training including defensive pistol, defensive revolver, and a carbine day.

-Rob- Work, eat, sleep.  No fun.  I got to talk with George Hill.  John, you convinced me to stay another day at GRPC.

Gary- I must be recovering, I’ve got some cabin fever. I went to the range this morning and put 8 14 round magazines of self-defense ammo through my Para without a malfunction, so that gun will take it’s rightful place as my everyday concealed carry gun.

Paul – Live from Central California. Don’t have the new truck yet, but do have a new student. We are delivering tomorrow and then off to the land of cheese. Only had a little time at home, so no range time for me, and have been so busy with training the new student that I don’t have time for dry fire practice.

Kathy Jackson’s Cornered Cat class in 2 weeks, we are down to 1 seat left for the 2 day Cornered Cat class, and still have seats for the 4 hour handgun retention class friday evening.

Seg 2- News

John- Two Military Members Fired Personal Weapons at the Chattanooga Terrorist

One of the heroic elements of the cowardly Chattanooga terror attack was two of our military taking the fight to the Islamic terrorist. A Marine and the site’s Commanding officer fired their personal pistols at a terrorist armed with a AK-47, possibly wounding him and very likely saving many other lives. They paid a heavy price for their heroism; the yet unnamed Marine died in the assault and Lt. Cmdr. Timothy White may face charges from his own government.

Allen West reports that the United States Navy is bringing charges against Commander White for illegally discharging a firearm on federal property. Since the Clinton era, military personnel have been banned from carrying weapons on federal military property. White could be relieved of command, lose rank, and might even face a dishonorable discharge.

Rob- Lieutenant Commander White’s wife said this- “He values human life enough to protect his sailors and others. I am honored to be his wife and stand by him 100 percent.”  She gets it.  I couldn’t have said it better, and thank them both.

To do this to a hero shows the level of anti-gun insanity that pervades the the current administration and the personnel they’ve placed in the upper ranks of the military. A petition on the White House website has been started to asks Obama to honor the men who fired their personal weapons. The petition must reach at least 100,000 signatures by Aug. 28 in order to force a response from the White House. That is a worthy goal.

https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/honor-our-service-members-who-used-their-personal-firearms-fight-back-against-terrorist-attacker-chattanooga

Paul – Florida grants permits in a hurry to military service men

Florida Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam said active and retired military service members get top priority when applying for their concealed carry licenses.  The expedited process is in response to the murders in Chattanooga, Tennessee.  The announcement by the agriculture commissioner expands upon an executive order issued by Florida Governor Rick Scott. The executive order included a requirement that preference be given to members of the Florida National Guard when applying for concealed-weapon licenses.

Rob- Fast and Furious scandal Arms Garland, Texas Terrorist

It looks like the federal government helped arm many of the latest crop of notorious killers. From the San Francisco pier murderer, to the Emanuel AME killer and the Lafayette movie shooting, all have involved questionable failures of federal systems. Now, another instance has been added to that string of failures: one of the Garland, Texas terrorists may have been armed with a pistol involved in the Fast and Furious scandal.

Nadir Soofi, killed during the Draw Mohammad attacks, used Lone Wolf Trading Co. to obtain a pistol. Lone Wolf was a part of a federal sting operation known as Fast and Furious that deliberately gave thousand of guns to narco-terrorists. This DOJ/ ATF operation was at best criminally negligent — and at worst treasonous.  Hundreds of Mexicans and two Americans died because of the weapons. The Obama administration was able to delay the investigation long enough for Eric Holder to leave office.

Soofi’s NICS check was initially delayed for a seven day investigation. For reasons unclear, the hold was lifted after 24 hours and Soofi was allowed to buy his 9-millimeter handgun. When he died, Soofi and his terrorist partner had three pistols on their bodies. The FBI has not released if the Fast and Furious pistol was in his possession the night of the attack. Neither have they explained the reason Soofi was allowed to purchase it. We only know of the Fast and Furious connection because of the Lone Wolf owner’s statements.  Senate investigators are demanding answers, raising the chilling possibility that a gun sold during the botched Fast and Furious operation ended up being used in a terrorist attack against Americans.

It all sounds like the stuff of tin-foil wearing conspiracy theorists.  Except for the abundant evidence of this administration’s wide-ranging efforts to eliminate firearms from the public. Keep your powder dry – we’ve got 18 months (hopefully) of this persistent danger.

Gary – Dr. John Lott talked about our frustrated president.  Hours before the latest shooting at a movie theater in Louisiana, President Obama complained in a BBC interview about his greatest failures.  What the president considers to be his greatest failures and what WE consider to be his greatest failure are entirely different lists.

President Obama considers his greatest failure to be his inability to pass gun control measures.  Obama offers no explanation for why the worst mass shooting during his presidency occurred in Europe, not in the US.

Obama didn’t explain why many European countries have a higher frequency of attacks and a higher death rate from mass public shootings than we see in the United States.

Not once during his interview did Obama explain how his gun control proposals would have stopped any of the attacks he has spoken so passionately about. The expanded background checks Obama has advocated wouldn’t have stopped a single one of the attacks that occurred during his presidency. The killers either passed background checks and bought the gun legally or stole the guns. With these killers planning their attacks far in advance, anywhere from 6 months (Charleston and Aurora attacks) to more than 2 years (Newtown and Santa Barbara), it is hardly clear why one would expect these rules to matter.

Obama also refused to acknowledge what many worry might serve as a magnet for these attacks: so-called “gun-free zones.”

Rob- I noticed that professional journalists don’t ask the obvious questions.

John – 100 LA Killings in 100 Days/ LA City Standard Capacity Magazine Ban

Apparently, some of the 120,000 active gang members in the Los Angeles area have started a friendly little contest on Twitter: they’ve challenged the city’s gangs to kill 100 people in 100 days.

The Daily Beast reports that this past weekend in South Los Angeles, the surge in violent crime was evident, and was likely tied to the Twitter hashtag of 100Daysand100Nights. Los Angeles Police Department administrators conveniently blamed the public’s fears on social media.  They said the violence and random slayings were not unusual in the City of Angels.

Los Angeles politicians continued to ignore the city’s real problems.  The hard-left LA City Council voted unanimously to further disarm law-abiding citizens. Their new ordinance would make it illegal to possess standard-capacity magazines within city limits. California has long had a ban on new magazines holding more than ten rounds. However, magazines owned before the ban were grandfathered in, something the media is disingenuously calling a loophole. Law-abiding LA residents will have 60 days to move the magazines or surrender them to the police.

Many pro-rights groups point out that this ban will obviously do nothing to diminish gang murders in the sanctuary city. The NRA and  CRPA are threatening lawsuits challenging the ordinance’s violation of California’s preemption law and the illegal takings arising from the law.

And they wonder why we continuously fight so hard for our gun rights.

Rob- I don’t think the gangs are going to obey the new gun laws any more than they obey the laws against robbery, drugs, prostitution and smuggling illegals.

Paul- Private companies must follow the law.. even in Nashville.

The city of Nashville contracted with concert promoters to run their public amphitheater.  The private company banned firearms.  Members of the city council in Memphis and Nashville said they wanted to extend the gun ban to many of their public parks.  Tennessee state law says public facilities must be open to licensed carriers.  The Tennessee attorney general said the venue remains a publicly owned property even if it is being run by a private company for a special event.  Quote, “Since a county or municipality no longer has the authority to prohibit handgun carry permit holders from possessing handguns in public parks and other recreational facilities, a county or municipality cannot convey or delegate any such authority to anyone else, either directly or indirectly.”

Rob- A new law went into effect the 1st of August in Louisiana that states that persons who are under a protective order for abuse are banned from possessing firearms, and if they are convicted of domestic violence are prohibited from possessing a firearm for 10 years. This is partially troubling because a protective order is VERY easy to attain, and can be granted without your attending a court hearing.

John- Rob’s next project.
John- Anniversary of Michael Brown’s Death
A word to the wise: This August 9th will be the first anniversary of the highly politicized shooting death of Michael Brown. Policemen have been warning shop owners in north St Louis about plans for civil disobedience in the days around the anniversary.

Segment 4 DGUs

Paul- Our first story is from Philadelphia.  A 19 year old appeared drunk or high on drugs when he told a group of older men to get off his block.  The 19 year old then pulled a gun and shot at the group.  One of the men had his concealed carry permit.  When the shooting was over, the 19 year old had fired twice and missed.  The concealed carry holder fired three times and hit the attacker in the neck, arms and abdomen.  The concealed carry holder called police, remained on the scene, and filed a report.  The 19 year old ran, but soon turned himself in at Temple University Hospital.  He is in critical condition.

Gary- Home Invader Shot – And Runs To Neighbor For Help

An estranged boyfriend tried to violently force his way into a woman’s Indianapolis, Indiana home. The woman’s brother, acting to defend his sister and her two children, shot the suspect as the door came crashing down. Instead of slinking off into the night like any other self-respecting dirtbag, the ventilated lover ran to a neighbor’s for help. The brother and then the police caught up to him there.

While this might seem like yet another Friday Night Folly, it does hold an important  lesson for the armed citizen. According to Massad Ayoob, the criminal or the deranged often feel wronged when the victim doesn’t play by their version of the rules. The real victim should be the first to notify the police to ensure that they have the first opportunity to claim victim – and justified shooter – status.

John- Burglar tries, tries again and is then shot
Jefferson Clement was having a frustrating night. He had tried unsuccessfully to jimmy three windows in his Augusta, Georgia apartment complex. The simple locks defeated the hapless thief. However, he did not let these setbacks dissuade him. No: he tried, tried again. And got shot for it.

The fourth window was unlocked. Unfortunately for the intrepid freelance tax-collector, the apartment was occupied by a resident with a gun. Ol’ Jeff was urged back out the window with a .380 hole in his leg. Clement was arrested at the hospital and will be charged with four counts of attempted burglary.

It’s refreshing to see signs of initiative in a Millennial. We wish this young man every success is his chosen career. NOT.

Rob- A Home Invader Disguised as a Cop is Shot by Homeowner
A Delaware man was shot and killed while disguised as a police officer and committing a home invasion near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Jamil A. Salahuddin, 34, of Wilmington, and another man also in a police uniform pointed guns at a man and a woman as they returned home just before midnight. They forced the couple inside and tied them with zip ties. The homeowner broke free and grabbed for Salahuddin’s gun. In the struggle, the male victim was shot in the arm and leg, but managed hit Salahuddin’s several times in the body and twice in the head. Salahuddin died at the scene; his accomplice fled.

Many of Salahuddin’s friends praised him as a “a great father, son, and husband.” However, he had a long police record for drug possession, forgery, resisting arrest, impersonation, receiving a stolen firearm and other gun offenses. In March 2014, he was arrested once again for a slew of felonies including firearm charges. He was scheduled to appear in court on those charges on Sept. 21 when he died assaulting the couple.

Residents were rocked by the incident. It is not know why a Delaware man would drive 90 miles to a sleepy little Pennsylvania town to commit a home invasion. There is no known connection between criminals and victims. Police have given no details about the police uniforms.

We can speculate that the criminals were planning something especially heinous, and literally wanted to distance themselves from the crime. We must also question why this hardened criminal was free to threaten the lives of innocents. Stay armed, stay observant; evil can come from very far away.

Paul- Texas Minister Shoots Assailant

(Whoever does this should read it as a Southern Baptist preacher.  Sell it!  If this is too cute, I can rewrite. Let me know.)

Finally, Pastor Benny Holmes was doing the Lord’s Work when he surprised an early morning burglar in his Baytown, Texas church. Lee Marvin Blue Jr. had several laptops on him when he met the pastor.  Pastor Holmes had arisen from the sleep of an innocent when he heard someone in the church. “I commanded him to stop twice, and he didn’t. So fearing for my life, I did what I had to do.”

It wasn’t lightning from the heavens, but a handgun that smote the sinner. Junior was pierced through the shoulder and fell prostrate in a pool of his own blood. “I led him through the sinner’s prayer while he was on the floor,” Pastor Holmes said. “He repeated the sinner’s prayer after me. And that was about it. I’m going to go visit him.” The many times repeat repentant sinner was borne up on the wings of a Life Flight helicopter and spirited to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. This is not the first time the pastor’s rod has been the cause of salvation. He had previously assisted a package thieving Grandmother from the error of her ways by holding her at gunpoint for the police.

You gotta love Texas.  Say Hallelujah!

(And yes, I AM going to Hell. Consigned there by the Nuns decades ago.)

John do you want to mention anything off of your No Lawyers – Only Guns and Money blog you would like to talk about?

HB 562 passed the NC Senate on Tuesday. It was our gun rights bill that gave us some, but not all, of the things we sought. The major thing that didn’t get through was the elimination of the pistol purchase permit system. Gun control groups are saying it was due to their pressure. This is a joke because it was due to power-hungry sheriffs reluctant to give up power and law & order Republicans who kow-towed to them. That said, I have no hesitation of saddling these Republicans with praise from gun banners as it won’t make their constituents very happy. Perhaps a few of them will see the error of their ways and perhaps a few will be defeated in primaries. We’ll see.
