Seg 2- News
1- Authorities: 2-year-old boy accidentally shoots and kills his mother inside Idaho Wal-Mart | Fox News. This is from Melody Lauer aka Limatunes
HAYDEN, Idaho – Authorities in northern Idaho say a 2-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed his mother after he reached into her purse at a Wal-Mart store and the concealed gun fired.
Kootenai County sheriff’s spokesman Stu Miller tells reporters that the shooting was accidental and occurred in the store in Hayden, Idaho, a town about 40 miles northeast of Spokane, Washington.
Miller says the woman had a concealed weapons permit. Her identity has not been released.
The Wal-Mart closed after the shooting.
Hayden is a politically conservative town of about 9,000 people just north of Coeur d’Alene in Idaho’s northern panhandle.
2- LA: CCW Fail: Gun Stolen in Armed Robbery
Another concealed carry failure happened that might have been prevented by open carry. In this rare event, a concealed carry weapons (CCW) permit holder was robbed of his defensive firearm. He was pistol whipped to the head before he could draw, indicating that his attackers did not wish to draw attention with a shot, and/or they did not wish an obvious murder. It is likely that if the victim had been openly carrying his firearm, the robbers would have chosen less dangerous prey.
Gary – We just don’t know if that is true, he may have been pistol whipped anyway.
3- Black teen disturbance Friday evening closes Chicago’s “NO GUNS” Navy Pier
You think you’ll be safe in Chicago if you just hang out in the touristy, supposedly “safe”, areas of the city?
Think again, Buttercup.
The random violence and criminal activity infects every nook and cranny in Chicago, but especially areas like the “NO GUNS” allowed Navy Pier, where gaggles of black teens began fighting amongst themselves and attacking hapless innocent tourists as part of their Christmas celebrations early Friday evening.
Police closed down Navy Pier on a busy night – one of Chicago’s top tourist destinations – because of the outbreak of violence. One worker described the scene as something out of “Braveheart”.
While many were injured, most refused treatment, except for one pregnant woman taking an ambulance to a children’s hospital.

4- It may have sounded like gunfire, but what caused hundreds of people to scatter at Chicago Ridge Mall over the weekend was apparently the sharp clang of pots or lids at a restaurant, according to police. Chicago Ridge police Chief Robert Pyznarski said Monday that a worker at a Japanese restaurant banged pots or pans to drive off people who were causing a disturbance Saturday evening. The restaurant manager insists, however, that someone dropped a lid by mistake.

Video: Unconfirmed reports of shots fired at Chicago Ridge mall
Either way, the sound sent hundreds of people yelling and running for cover in the mall. There were no injuries or arrests, but the mall closed early.

Gun Quotes
“There are no dangerous weapons. There are only dangerous men.”
– Robert A. Heinlein

“Though defensive violence will always be ‘a sad necessity’ in the eyes of men of principle, it would be still more unfortunate if wrongdoers should dominate just men.”
– St. Augustine

“The philosophy of gun control: Teenagers are roaring through town at 90MPH, where the speed limit is 25. Your solution is to lower the speed limit to 20.”
– Sam Cohen (inventor of the neutron bomb)

Segment 4 DGUs

1 Our first DGU is from WKBN.com, Quoting directly from their website

PITTSBURGH (AP) – Police say a 74-year-old western Pennsylvania man fatally shot one of two men armed with axe handles who baited him out of his home in an attempt to rob him.
State police say Nicholas Dziyak fatally shot 42-year-old Robert West about 8:40 p.m. Sunday in West Pike Run Township. That’s in Washington County, about 30 miles south of Pittsburgh.
Police say they’ve jailed a second alleged attacker, 18-year-old Andrew Graseck, of Carmichaels, on charges including robbery and aggravated assault.
Police say West and Graseck cut the power to Dziyak’s property before luring him outside, where they planned to rob him over a past business dispute.
Instead, the homeowner fired at both men, killing West. Police say Graseck was arrested after a short chase.
The district attorney must determine if the shooting was justified.
2- Good guys with guns are the only thing that stops bad people with evil in their hearts from destroying innocent lives.
Yes, Virginia, the most effective thing that stops a bad guy with a weapon of some sort and evil in his or her heart is a good guy with a gun. Sometimes that good guy wears a badge. Sometimes that good guy isn’t a cop, but a licensed civilian.
Sometimes he’s even a pastor of a church – and sometimes violence is visited upon a place of the Lord:
Kissimmee, FL (Orlando Sentinel) – The pastor of a Kissimmee church shot and critically wounded an employee Tuesday morning in a shootout after he notified the man he was being fired, according to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office. Benjamin Parangan Jr., a member of the maintenance crew for at least eight years, allegedly opened fire when he was told he no longer had a job.

3- Our next dgu comes from KLFY.com For this one we have audio from them

4- we have this one from Fargo’s WDAZ.com again quoting directly from their website.

FARGO – A passer-by with a handgun stopped four people from assaulting and robbing a 36-year-old man Monday afternoon in downtown, according to Fargo police.
Lt. Joel Vettel said one of the four knew the victim and lured him behind a building in the 900 block of NP Avenue. There, the man was assaulted, knocked unconscious and robbed of his wallet, Vettel said.
Police were dispatched to the scene about 12:10 p.m. and learned that the passer-by, who has a license to carry a concealed weapon, brandished his gun to end the robbery, Vettel said.
All four of the alleged robbers were being held Monday evening at the Cass County Jail.
Spencer St. Claire, 19, and Michael Guy, 33, were each arrested on a robbery charge. Neither man has a permanent address.
Linda Miller, 37, of Moorhead was booked on charges of robbery and felony possession of drug paraphernalia, as well as an outstanding warrant for misdemeanor assault.
Flora Eaglechasing, 42, of Moorhead was booked on a robbery charge, along with an outstanding warrant for failing to appear in court.

5- According to NBC Philadelphia, a man, identified as Angel Suarez Medero, climbed onto a second story apartment balcony in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. and broke into the home and stealing a dog from inside. Medero then jumped from a second story window with the dog.
Medero then broke into a first floor apartment and began assaulting the residents inside.
One of the residents was armed and opened fire on Medero, who still continued to fight despite suffering close range gunshot wounds.
Medero was eventually subdued and taken into custody by police. He was transported to an area hospital for surgery where he remains in critical condition.
The dog that was stolen ran away during the ordeal and is still missing. The dog, named Ollie, is a 4-year-old, penny-colored long-haired dachshund and weighs approximately 17 pounds according to the NBC report. The owner is hoping he can be found. This incident is the one of the most common types of defensive gun uses. That is, one in which no one was killed. Despite this being one of the most common types of defensive gun uses, these incidents are often not included in statistics about defensive gun uses. Many of these statistics and studies focus solely on justifiable homicides, which represent only a fraction of total defensive gun uses.

Listener e-mail discussion

Email from Braden a long time listener whom we haven’t heard from in a while.

Dear Paul,

I really enjoyed the prepper discussion you recently had on Episode 296. Thank you!!!

Regarding the shotgun suggestion and your comment to consider a 20 gauge, I had some thoughts noted below.
BTW, Massad Ayoob wrote a commentary about the virtues of the 20 gauge and calculated the reduced recoil versus yield and found it to be a good deal.

My insights are:
1) The 20 gauge seems to me to be less available or more expensive in the buckshot category (which is what is needed as a self-defense “caliber”).
2) Reduced Recoil 12 gauge buckshot ammunition is reasonably easy to shoot with all the needed bang for the buck (pun intended) and is plentiful.

So, please consider the Reduced Recoil 12 gauge ammunition since it addresses your justified recoil concerns.
(BTW, I look for Law Enforcement eight [8] pellet which seems to pattern well from a variety of manufacturers which may be due to the pellet arrangement).

One final thing, I would recommend that shotgun users go with only one gauge due to the substantial risk of putting a 20 gauge shell in a 12 gauge shotgun!
(For me, I vigorously marked, and as soon as it was possible, I got rid of all 20 gauge ammunition from a friend’s borrowed 20 gauge shotgun…too much risk).

Best regards, Braden

Mark from Canada wrote in as well,

I really enjoy listening to PSP! As a Canadian I find the information very interesting and sometimes leaving me drooling over the ability most Americans have to carry concealed for self-defence.

Here in Canada, we supposedly have the right to self-defense but are not able to exercise that right because we cannot arm ourselves to a level that would facilitate mounting a sufficient defense against any violent attack.

I have a comment regarding the video produced by Rejina Sincic. I watched the video with my kids and one of my sons noticed that the gun was a pellet, BB, or airsoft gun. I did a quick search after having a look at the video and found that it is a Crossman C11 CO2 powered .177 BB pistol. What a joke! Fear mongering at its best!

Seasons Greetings Polite Society Podcast hosts,

Merry Christmas and a Happy New year to you all.

I have been a listener for a few years now and enjoy your show very much. I unfortunately live in New Jersey and know first hand how we don’t enjoy the 2A freedoms that the majority of our fellow countrymen and woman enjoy everyday. And it’s disheartening to hear it seems like every week somewhere in this country they keep whittling down your rights to keep and bear arms. If you want a taste of reality come here to New Jersey, New York, Connecticut just to name a few of the worst states. And see first hand how a law biding citizen who owns firearms fears arrest every time you pick up your firearms. Even in your own home. It only takes a phone call, picture on youtube or a tweet on twitter to get a knock or a swat team at your door here. So when you say it will never happen in my home state,Think again. It’s already there and waiting for the right time to disarm you. As we say here in New Jersey. What happens here will not stay here and its coming to you soon.

So a new years resolution for all your listeners in 2015 should be. Join your state 2A group,or NRA, 2nd amendment foundation or a state 2A group that is fighting a battle to keep 2A freedoms. And watch your politicians closely and speak up when you see them swaying to take your freedoms away. And the ones that do. Don’t vote for or Re-Elect them. As the Democrats say ” it’s only common sense”.

Keep up the the great show that you give us every week.

I wish all my gun totting brothers and sisters in this great country of ours a healthy happy and safe New Year.

Gun freedom for all.

Gerard

We got a comment from the website

Wow, so much to comment on with this episode.
1. Thank you! This episode got me through a 60 minute bike ride in the gym. Working off my Christmas dinner.
2. Don’t tell the “Unnamed Trucker” but his podcast has, indeed, become my second favorite podcast, thanks to this one.
3. Martha McSally is a U.S. Air Force Academy graduate and former A-10 pilot and the first woman in U.S. history to fly a combat aircraft into enemy territory when she flew into Iraq. Her “bad A$$” bona fides go on and on. Check out McSally vs. Rumsfeld. Let’s hope she holds tight on 2nd amendment issues.
4. Love that you added Susan to the podcast in a prominent role. The contrasting voices, the additional exchange of ideas, and one more person to poke fun at Paul, keeps the podcast interesting.
5. I was intrigued by the dash cam discussion and it’s prompted me to consider adding one to my vehicle. There’s a lot to research on the features and capabilities. I started with a YouTube search on, “A Beginners Guide to Dashcams / Car DVR Cameras.” I’m hoping Paul can share what he currently uses, and what he’s considering as an upgrade.
6. Keep up the good work!
