About The Podcast

Greetings!

My name is Paul Lathrop.  On February 3, 2012, Susan Lathrop and I started the Politics and Guns podcast.  I guess that makes us executive producers.  I felt a need to speak about our government eroding our human right of self-defense.  The way to fix things was through the political system, a system I believe in.  That leads us immediately to politics.  Politics and Guns is the result.

In January of 2014 we decided that a change was in order for the title of the show, so we re-titled the show “The Polite Society Podcast”.

The show started out with me trying to do a 5 day-a-week podcast with each segment about 15 to 20 minutes long.  I discussed news and events surrounding the Second Amendment.  Well this quickly fell to a 3 times a week release of about a 45 minute podcast, then to a once a week show. We moved a bit away from the news segment for a while, but it is back with a vengeance!  I do plan on continuing to bring you interviews with people that are working to help restore our rights.

Rob Morse, John Richardson, and Rachel Malone have also come aboard as contributors.  And Susan has started handling some of the editing and producing duties.

There are a lot of ways to get in touch with the show.  Of course there is this website. You can also go to www.facebook.com/politicsandgunspodcast,  the show is on Twitter Twitter.com/politicsandguns.  You can reach any of the hosts by sending an email to the first name of the host and then @politicsandguns.com, or you can leave a voicemail at 605-215-1438.

Thank you for checking the page out.  I look forward to talking with you about Politics and Guns!

I have overlooked your podcast for months now due to the title, just didnt want any more politics, but I do listen to everything I can about guns.
Did I ever make a mistake, and have some catching up to do with listening to some / all of your past podcasts.
I am just getting started, but my first impression is great. Great information, and even better method for delivery.
    keep up the good work.

    • Thanks Lane!

I have been working hard over the past month or so to expand the show past the strictly political and news angle I started with. I am a little slow on updating the website, but have been trying hard to get better at that. I am glad that you enjoy the show, and feel free to leave feedback on any of the episodes.

  2. Where is the shirt? I am really interested in one, to help support the show and let the world know how cool I am, but I don’t see it on the website to judge.
I’m new to the podcast and relatively new to guns. I love them both!

  3. Through iTunes, the duration of your podcast is longer than the stated time. This means it reaches zero before the podcast ends. This means, if I pause after reaching zero time remaining, that’s it. . .the show is over and I miss however much remaining content there is. FYI

    • Thanks for the feedback! We changed some settings in our recording mix that have changed back. If the problem persists with episodes after 205 please let us know.

  4. iTunes podcast still only goes to about 59 minutes, but runs full length. If I stop after it reaches zero time remaining, I can’t hear the last remaining time. It’s been like this for at least the last month (since I began listening).

    • We have been chasing our tails for 2 months trying to correct the problem. We are SO glad that it appears to finally be working!

  5. Please check on episode 279.

The team does a fantastic job with an excellent podcast.

However, there were two verbal gaffes that change the meaning of the intended point.

    1. During the discussion on assault rifles and “assault weapons” in the very final review of the definitions they were actually switched.
    2. During the discussion of the Surgeon General and the better qualifications of the Acting Surgeon General, the position was accidentally called the Acting AG.

These things happen. Just wanted to alert you. Braden Lynch

  6. Hi there! I regularly listen to PSP via iTunes and yes, I do read the show description 🙂 I look forward to listening to this most recent edition.

As a Canadian listener, I am always left wishing that our supposed rights and freedoms here in Canada could be exercised as you are able to in most states. Thank you for your recent coverage of issues here in Canada.

    Have a great day.

  8. I do enjoy listening to your podcast. There is one change I wish you would do. Please lower the volume of your commercials so that it matches the average or maximum volume of your podcast. I mainly listen to your show using headphones, and your loud commercials hurt my ears and I have to hurry and turn down the volume.
    Thank you, Stephen

    • I spent quite a bit of time this past weekend working on this. As of episode 334 the ads should be the same volume or possibly slightly quieter.

      Thanks for listening!

  9. Thank you for adjusting the volume on the commercials. They are all the same now.
I failed to mention it last time, thinking that it would fix itself, but there is still an issue with the commercial. On episode 334 from 1:27:12 to 1:28:29 that particular commercial has an audio clipping issue. Try going back to the commercial’s original source file and turn down the gain, then remix. I listened in with some better quality headphones, and could hear the audio distortion a few times on that commercial still.
Thank you for all the effort you put into making a worthwhile and informative show.
I thought I would mention to you that I participate in a group where I live called the Utah polite society. http://utahpolitesociety.blogspot.com
It is a group that meets once a month to practice handgun fighting skills, and I learn an incredible amount each time I go.
    Thanks, Stephen C.

  10. Hi all,
Found your pocast a few months ago and love it ! I just listened to the interview Ken B.and wanted to add something.
I’m a firm believer that the main stream media is the main cause of a lot of the problems we have today. When there’s a shooting especially a mass shooting , that’s all you hear and see for days. We have a lot of sick twisted people out there and then they think I can do better than that when all the media’s lies are shoved in there face.
Then there’s the police, they never say anything about all the good things I’m sure they do everyday.
The way the media alters, twist things around, and flat out lies, in my opinion, is our (gun owners and 2a ) worst enemy and I really don’t see how that can be fixed.
Feel free to use this, I would like to hear everybody’s thoughts.
    Keep them podcasts coming.
    Jack

  11. I just found your podcast, and listened to the february 12th show. Very good. You are now on my weekly list. You prove that gun owners are not a bunch of knuckle-dragging neanderthals that so many gun grabbers seem to think we are.
