Seg 1- Personal news from each participant (when you are done with your segment please ask the next person what has been up with them)

Gary – What training do you have coming up?

John – This week has been tied up with business. On Monday I had to attend a district meeting for my company. The one thing I like about people in my district is that they aren’t anti-gun. Indeed, one of my co-workers wanted to show me a video he took of him shooting with his new suppressor. It’s good to work where you don’t have to hide your pro-gun views from your co-workers.

Other than that, I haven’t really done anything gun related.sigh.

Rachel – Finally, lots of guns & politics news! The highlights: Appleseed shoot in Fredericksburg, new monthly meet-up/training with Lone Star Gun Rights, and a new holster that I absolutely LOVE for concealed carry – check my facebook page for pictures and a full review this week.

I am going to insert a live promo about upcoming training classes here.

Seg 2- News

Hillary Clinton For President

Barring a well deserved, but politically unlikely, FBI Server-gate indictment, Hillary Clinton will be the Democrat candidate for President. Joe Biden blinked, Jim Webb found himself at odds with the current party, and Lincoln Chafee wandered off in confusion. Bernie Sanders and the other non-entities still running are likely no threat to the Clinton machine.

In November ‘16, Americans will likely have a choice between two very different directions for the country. Restricting gun rights has already been targeted by candidate Clinton as a major portion of her campaign. She has proposed the Australian model of gun control, with it’s door-to-door confiscation of firearms and destruction of the citizenry’s Constitutional Rights.

If you do not agree with the elimination of your Rights, now is the time to get involved. Support the candidates of your choice in national, state and local contests. Join organizations that speak your values, and contribute your money and especially your time. Now is the time to fight – before the doors are kicked in.

John – I notice that Hillary’s spokeswoman tried to walk back off some of the comments about gun confiscation.

Ben Carson

Presidential candidate Ben Carson has a very different take than Hillary on the 2nd Amendment.

Dr Carson said that logic and common sense make clear that it’s time to talk about eliminating gun free zones, not guns.  He observed that a lot of these shooters are people who are mentally unstable, but they’re not so unstable that they don’t recognize that if I’m going to kill a lot of people, I need to go to a place where people are not likely to have guns and kill me.  We should be concerned about [these tragedies] so let’s sit down and let’s talk about reasonable ways to prevent this from happening without infringing on our 2nd Amendment rights. He added, that’s what intelligent people do.

And that’s probably why Hillary doesn’t.

Rachel-Carson hasn’t always had pro-gun rhetoric. In fact, he has some disturbing statements about not wanting people to be able to have semi-automatic firearms.

John – So has Jeb Bush whose campaign seems to be imploding.

NRA More Popular Than Obama or Hillary

Despite decades of political demonization, a new Gallup Poll shows The National Rifle Association is much more popular than Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama. 58% of Americans said they have a favorable view of the gun rights organization, while 35% said they have an unfavorable view. Seven percent were undecided. By contrast, Less than 50% of the populace supports Obama, while only 39% favor Hillary.

CF – I’m amazed that toe fungus isn’t more popular than Hillary.

John – I got the results of a poll taken of NH voters.

New York and Connecticut Anti Gun Law Upheld

On Monday the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit upheld most of the 2013 arms prohibition laws enacted in New York and Connecticut. According to David Kopel, the 2nd Circuit decision exemplifies the pattern in many lower federal courts of defying the Supreme Court’s admonition in McDonald v. Chicago that the Second Amendment is not “a second-class right, subject to an entirely different body of rules than the other Bill of Rights guarantees.” The approach of some lower courts seems to be that Heller stands for little beyond its holding that handgun bans are unconstitutional.

It is all very interesting reading – and very detailed. We recommend that our listeners read the entire excellent article at the link in the show notes. However, as a take-away, one of the underlying themes is that Elections Have Consequences. The President gets to appoint the federal judges, including those in the Supreme Court. Who you elect – or allow to be elected due to non-participation – is very important!

Gallup’s Annual Crime Poll

Another Gallup poll, the Annual Crime Poll, also had some interesting results. 56% of Americans say more concealed weapons would make country safer. And all political candidates should take note that more than one in four U.S. registered voters (26%) say they would only vote for a candidate who shares their views on gun control — about double the 11% to 15% who said this in the year after the 1999 Columbine High School massacre.

However, the public’s support for Universal Background Checks and a centralized database is strong. Even though they are uncertain that the background checks would actually reduce the number of mass shootings.

It seems we have more education to do.

Lucky Gunner Reviews Self-Defense Cartridges

Here’s another article our listeners absolutely need to read. Lucky Gunner has tested 117 self-defense cartridges. Put a little science in your duty pistol. Link is in the show notes.

John  – Lucky Gunner is a good company. I don’t say this because my blog is one of their affiliates, I say it because they stood up to the Brady Campaign when they were sued over selling ammo to the Aurora, Colorado theater killer.

Finger Gun Forces Emergency Landing

A San Jose to DFW flight was diverted to Phoenix because of an unruly, armed  passenger. The passenger who allegedly boarded the flight already in his cups, became belligerent when the attendant would not serve him any more alcohol. The plane was diverted when the man produced a gun and was then subdued by several men.

It was not know how the 26-year-old passenger was able to get his weapon past TSA. There are reports that he had it in-hand when he went through the security theatre checkpoint. However, it’s unclear if it can be legally considered an arm, because technically, it was attached to his hand. Which is where most of us keep our fingers. The weapon that diverted a flight, burned tens of thousands of dollars, and delayed 96 passengers — was a finger gun. The very same fearsome weapon that has armed generations of 4-year-olds.

After the landing, a shamed-faced American Airlines refused to prosecute, released the plane, and sent the drunk to a hotel to sober up. He’ll continue his flight later. After all, It could have been much, much worse – the man might have been armed with a Pop Tart gun.

CF – Our society has become insanely hoplophobic if a finger-gun requires the emergency diversion of an airplane.

Hearing Protection Act of 2015 Introduced

Rep. Matt Salmon, Republican from Arizona, introduced HR 3799 this week. It is called the Hearing Protection Act of 2015. The bill, if it becomes law, will remove suppressors and silencers from the purview of the National Firearms act. Even though they really aren’t firearms, they would now be treated like any other firearm and you would go through a NICS check. You would no longer have to pay the $200 tax nor would you have to wait 6-9 months for a background check to be completed.

The bill would also preempt state laws that would tax or require registration of suppressors. It would also refund the $200 tax if paid after October 22nd.

The Hearing Protection Act has the support of both the American Suppressor Association and the National Rifle Association. The support of the NRA is significant as they haven’t been pro-suppressor in the past.

John – As I’ve mentioned in the past on this podcast, I have some hearing impairment due to shooting without hearing protection when I was in my teens and 20s. I am a strong supporter of this bill and would urge our listeners to contact their representatives and Senators to push this bill.

Rachel. – You can use PopVox to send a letter to your congressman and state’s senators.

Rachel- Straight from the CDC, recommendations for preventing hearing loss – “If state law permits, consider providing noise suppressors for gun barrels”

CF – Teach your family and friends the importance of hearing and eye protection. We were young and stupid and ignored our eyes and ears out of machismo. Now that we’re old and stupid, we know better.

Gun Quote

“Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed; as they are in almost every kingdom of Europe. The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword; because the whole body of the people are armed, and constitute a force superior to any band of regular troops that can be, on any pretence, raised in the United States.”

– Noah Webster, An Examination into the Leading Principles of the Federal Constitution, 1787

Segment 3 Interviews

Our guest today is Adriel Michaud (me-show) of Slam Fire Radio. We asked Adriel on the show today to talk about the recent national elections in Canada and their impact on Canadian gun owners.

Welcome Adriel

The Liberal Party won a big majority in this week’s election. The Conservative Party under PM Stephen Harper suffered a big loss.

Will this be a loss for gun owners in Canada and if so why?

Part of the Liberal Party’s platform involved gun control. Do you think the gun registry will be coming back?

What other impediments will gun owners in Canada face?

I listened to an interview with the director of the Canadian Shooting Sports Association and he seemed quite concerned with UN marking requirements. Why is that an issue?

What is the role of bureaucrats and the RCMP in gun regulations in Canada?

Where do Canadian gun owners and enthusiasts go from here?

CCW Holder Shoots an Attacker In Front of His House

Alertness and preparation likely saved a Toledo, Ohio man from serious injury or worse.

The 21-year-old pulled into his driveway after his late night shift as a welder. A car slowing down in front of his house concerned him enough to put his legally carried CCW pistol in his pocket. Going toward his house, he was rushed by a robber, who leveled his pistol at the victim’s head and shouted “Don’t move!” In that deadly situation, the victim refused the thief’s order and moved decisively.  “He was a little quicker on the draw and he shot the suspect,” says Lt. Joe Heffernan of the Toledo Police Department. (As an aside, this is a nice illustration of action beating reaction.)

The victim’s shot hit the suspect in the abdomen. He called 911 while the former aggressor fled. Police found the suspect in a hospital, where he is expected to live.  “We have no reason to believe that [the victim] did not fire in self-defense, so no charges have been filed as of yet,” says Heffernan. However, it remains up to the prosecutor’s office to decide if they will take the case before a grand jury.

The victim’s mother says her son bought a gun and got a permit this year after two break-ins at the family’s home. “I have a very good kid,” said the mother. “He doesn’t bother no one. He’s not in a gang. He’s not into none of that. He’s just trying to make an honest living”. A neighbor also approved of the victim’s use of force. The neighbor had been jumped and robbed himself and is in the process of getting his own CCW permit.

We too applaud the young man’s preparations, alertness, and courage.  It certainly looks like he did everything right to save his life.

Oklahoma woman shoots boyfriend during domestic dispute

An Oklahoma woman was forced to shoot her boyfriend when he allegedly threatened her two children. An early morning domestic dispute took a violent turn when the man assaulted the children and went after one with a knife. The woman armed herself and shot twice. Deputies found the boyfriend dead in the front yard.

So far, no charges have been filed.

A Young Man Uses new CPL
Just weeks after he received his Concealed Pistol License, a young Detroit man had to use the weapon he lawfully carried.  Three teens approached him at a bus stop and told him if he moved they were going to blow him [up]. One thug demanded money and pulled a gun to back up his threat. Temporarily distracted by the victim’s $220, they allowed the man to draw his pistol and fire. Two were hit and the third took to his heels.

The victim called the police, who found the two wounded assailants in a nearby hospital. One of the teens confessed to this crime and others; further evidence was found on the pair’s Facebook pages. The CPL holder has been questioned and released.

No one has been charged yet, the case still has to be handed over to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s office.

The victim’s brother believes this is a perfect example of why he and his brother have no choice but to carry in a city that is plagued by crime. “I believe you should have the right to protect yourself from any danger,” he said, “We should be able to walk and go where we want freely and not be in fear of our life. That’s why I believe your CPL is protecting you from any danger you may come across.”

Pastor Shoots Man in Church

The pastor of the Detroit area City of God Ministries shot and killed a man threatening him with a brick. The alleged assailant was shot 4 or 5 times in front of the congregation.

Police said the pastor had had issues with the man before. He had been threatening him to do bodily harm. On that Sunday, the man posted to Facebook, “Can’t wait to see Sunday message at the City of God Ministry. I’ll be there with the truth. Later he typed, “This (expletive) gonna hit the fan.” The man believed the pastor had an affair with his wife and had gotten her pregnant.

The pastor has not been arrested and is cooperating with the police.  Prosecutors will decide whether the shooting was justified.

Self Defense at Frisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf

It may seem fishy, but police say a shooting in Frisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf area was likely justified.  A 73-year-old resident heard someone in his home just before midnight. The man walked downstair and encountered a 54-year-old intruder — and shot him in the knee. The old guy then politely “escorted” the burglar out of his house and called police. They found the kneecapped bandit hobbling about a block away. He was treated at San Francisco General Hospital and was expected to be booked into jail when released from the hospital.

CF – Not a good idea to clear one’s house. That’s what the professional donut eaters are trained, equipped and staffed to do. And escorting the wounded man out the door… wow. The homeowner certainly needs to work on his home-defense tactics. Fortunately, it all worked out for the good.

John – I wonder if the gun was locked up and in secure storage before he retrieved it to defend himself.

Home Invader Climbs Naked into Bed With Home Owners
Finally, in our News From the Really Weird comes a story from Portland, Oregon (hmph, go figure); A homeowner was awakened by a late night smoochie. However, it wasn’t his honey bunch looking for a little sugar, but a naked home intruder in their bed.

The amorous cat burglar broke into the couple’s northside home and started collecting their valuables. Spying the sleeping homeowners, the robber took off his clothes and climbed into bed with them. He wasn’t completely naked, as the invader had a knife. Awakened by the kiss, the man pushed the criminal off him, and was fortunate to be able to back up his No-Means-No with a handgun.

An ear-witness related; “Screaming. It was screaming at each other. There was something about a knife and then after that, that’s when the shots.” Three shots were fired, driving the invader away, while struggling to get back into his pants. Police found the jilted thief a block away in a vacant house he had broken into. He was hospitalized for possible drug use (No, really?) and then booked. The Robbing Don Juan was charged with first and second degree burglary, first degree sexual abuse, and the unlawful use of a weapon. He can add those charges this to his already extensive arrest record from Oregon and California.

Our congratulations to the homeowner for stopping what could have easily been a deadly situation. But please sir, put some pants on.

Listener e-mail discussion

1st email is from Bob in South Carolina

Greetings All.

I listen to and enjoy your podcast each week.  On the last podcast you mentioned a DGU at a Waffle House somewhere in SC (I don’t remember where).  Apparently someone affiliated with Waffle House mentioned continuing their gun-free policy.  While I am not sure, I assume this person was just affiliated with Waffle House in the location where the incident occurred.  I live in SC, have eaten in quite a few Waffle Houses, and have yet to see one that is posted to prohibit concealed weapons.  You mentioned how you would not be eating there again, but you might want to actually check before you just decide to pass them all by as I know for a fact that there are others in SC that have no problem with concealed carry – or if they do they have not posted their restaurants in any way to indicate that desire.

Keep up the good work and take care.

Bob in SC

Next we heard from Greg in Washington about shoulder holsters.

Paul & the gang,

I got a Galco JackAss shoulder rig for my 1911, for driving and wearing around the house, I love it, I can pack a REAL gun & mags in gym shorts and a tanktop.

Hope this helps

And we got a VOICE MAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rob- Clash Daily.  Ammoland.  Slowfacts. That is at slow facts dot wordpress dot com.  John, tell us what’s new at your blog no lawyers only guns and money

I posted Every Picture Tells a Story, Part Four. This post which is a collaboration with Rob Vance features a graphic which shows the FBI Violent Crime Rates (crimes per 100,000) plotted against the percentage of the US population that lives in states with either shall issue concealed carry or constitutional carry. While as they say in statistics that correlation isn’t causation, you can see a negative correlation meaning that as the population with more gun rights has risen, crime rates have fallen. So much for the blood running in the streets thesis of the anti-rights groups.

That and more is at only guns and money dot blogspot dot com.

We would like to thank Charlie Foxtrot for writing up show notes for us. Even though you don’t hear him on the air he is certainly part of what you do hear. Look at his blog at not one more gun law dot blogspot dot com

Seg 1- Personal news from each participant (when you are done with your segment please ask the next person what has been up with them)

Gary – What training do you have coming up?

John – No gun shows or shooting this week. However, I did do a bit of blogging including an important post entitled Every Picture Tells a Story, Part Three. More on this post at the show close segment of the show.

We are spending the weekend with our granddaughter and her parents. Olivia has a lot of theme-related outfits like UNC Tar Heels and the Carolina Panthers. It got me to thinking I need to find a NRA tee shirt for a toddler. Just imagine how a picture of her in a NRA shirt would drive the anti-rights crowd mad!

On a more serious note, I had my hearing checked this week. I have moderate 4000 hertz notch hearing loss. It along with my tinnitus can be traced to shooting in my younger years without hearing protection. My audiologist made the recommendation to use both foam plugs and muffs when shooting indoors. Given her boyfriend shoots 3-gun, I think she may know what she is talking about. I would urge all of our listeners – and especially the younger ones – to really make an effort to protect your hearing. Hearing loss is irreversible. This is just another reason that suppressors need to come off the NFA list. It is a safety issue.

Rob- Mailed in the last paperwork for my CCW.  More dry practice.  I’m excited to go to Florida next weekend.

Paul- Not a lot of news as I unexpectedly got a student on Tuesday and that turned a 70 hour work week into a 100 plus hour work week.

Training – We just booked a training class for next year and I am HUGELY excited about this. May 12th through the 15th of 2016 will be the Polite Society Podcast MAG 40 in Sioux Falls, SD

Seg 2- News

Hillary Declares the NRA an Enemy

In the first Democrat debate, Hillary Clinton proudly claimed the NRA as her enemy. In the following days she continued her demonization of the organization, equating it with terrorists, communists and Iranians. She  promoted the Australian Model of gun control, deliberately hiding it’s jack-booted door-to-door confiscation of guns. Clinton has announced her gun control plan, promising that when she’s elected, she’ll ban some guns and impose restrictive gun control laws on all others, even without Congress.

Clinton has chosen to make an enemy of the hundred million law-abiding gun owners; making them the problem instead of the drug gangs, criminals and the insane who are the real source of crime. Constitutional protections apparently mean little to her and she has openly challenged the Supreme Court’s pro-rights gun decisions. Her election would mean a direct assault on the rights of free men and women.

As such, we’re proud to be Hillary’s Enemy.

RM – If the NRA was truly the same as terrorist, communists and Iranians, It would probably be a good thing, as the ‘Boma administration and Clinton have a long history of rolling over for them.

John – I would also note that Hillary, in a New Hampshire town hall, advocated using a “cash for clunkers” approach to achieve her Australian style gun control. OK, just whose money is going to pay for that? Hers or ours?

CNN Money says NRA funded by small donors

If you watched the democrat debates then you heard the chant that the NRA is funded by the gun manufacturers.  Journalists at CNN Money did their homework and looked at the public record.  None of the donations to the National Rifle Association Institute for Legislative action come from corporate interests.  You and  I gave 85 million dollars over the last ten years.  The largest donation was 50 thousand dollars.  We gave 22 million dollars during the 2014 election.  As one NRA official said ‘politicians don’t listen to the NRA, but they listen to the NRA’s 5 million members.’  There is a reason.  The NRA has been effective in getting its members to donate their money, their time for campaigns, and in getting their members to the polls on election day.

John – Hillary just gave the NRA a gift. It will make fund raising that much easier.

Rob – It is all good publicity.

Harvard Study: More Guns – Less Crime
Always good to have some facts to offset the emotional drivel of the politicians. Especially when they come from the Dear Leader’s own school.  A Harvard University study thoroughly refutes the anti’s long held belief that more guns means more crime.

According to the news site Belief-net, a study in the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy said the more guns a nation has, the less criminal activity they find.  The study collected data from the Centers for Disease Control, the U.S. National Academy of Sciences and the United Nations International Study on Firearms Regulation.

Now, where have we heard those same results before?  Could it be…. John Lott?

John – the anti’s are also trying to inflate the number of deaths.

Gary –

Rob- that is why I compared the rate of violence, not simply violence with a handgun.

Gun Violence Decreasing – Guns Sales Increasing
Refuting the scare-mongering of Clinton and the Obama administration, National Shooting Sports Foundation reported that, “Historical data from FBI Uniform Crime Reports show significant decreases in both the number of annual violent crimes committed as well as the violent crime rate in the United States.” The figures show a 35.2 percent decline in violent crimes over the past 20 years and a 16.2 percent decline over the past 10 years. The continuing decrease in violent crime comes at a time when firearms ownership has increased significantly across America, a fact that utterly contradicts the mantra of anti-gun groups that more guns equals more crime.

With the Left’s demonization of the firearm, it is no small coincidence that last month’s adjusted National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) figure of just over a million inquiries is the highest September on record for the 17-year-old system, with an increase of 4.7 percent compared to the September 2014 NSSF-adjusted NICS figure. Obama continues his record as the best gun salesman ever.

For our new listeners, the National Instant Criminal Background Check System is run by the FBI.  The system reports to gun dealers and local law enforcement if a gun buyer is a prohibited person.

Gary-

The Creepy Ballerina Blames Deadliest September in 13 Years On Police Being Afraid to do Their Jobs

Years of Progressive policies have come home to the Windy City with a spike in murders.  You heard that right; rabidly anti-gun Chicago is bucking the nationwide trend of diminishing murder rates. Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel blames Chicago’s deadliest September in 13 years on police being afraid to do their jobs.  Rahm said “We have allowed our police department to get fetal and it is having direct consequence.  (The police) have pulled back from the ability to interdict … they don’t want to be a news story themselves, they don’t want their career ended early, and it’s having an impact (on crime).”

The so-called Ferguson Effect is causing police officers to fear for their freedom, families and careers if they aggressively go after criminals of a protected class. They can see that their police commanders and political leaders will happily throw them to the wolves if their actions excite the professional activists or sensation-hungry media.  As a result, the street officers are deciding to play it safe, get their 20 years in, and retire. Criminals on the street are reacting to the withdrawal of enforcement.

If you demonize and demoralize the cops, and disarm the populace, what did the politicians think would happen?  Congratulations Chicago — and Baltimore, Washington DC, St Louis, Frisco, LA… all cities with radically increased murders rates — you are reaping what you’ve sown.

Rob- That is sad news.  The people being hurt the most are poor minorities.  I’m sorry, but we tried to tell you that elections have consequences.

John – Rob you are absolutely correct. When I was looking at the CDC mortality statistics, a combination of African Americans and Latinos comprised the majority of deaths.

John W. – Camen NJ and what is the real cost of this policy in terms of residents lives.

Rob – We have 15 black people killed every day by black people.. and the news media ignores it as if black lives don’t matter.

77,000 population of camden

Texas Police Offering Free CCW Course
Not all police are retreating from the criminals. The police department in Aransas Pass, Texas is offering free concealed handgun license classes. Police Chief Eric Blanchard says he wants people in the community to be educated when it comes to guns. “The bad guys don’t care about the rules. If they want to be armed they are going to be armed. If we can offset those numbers with good people being armed out there. I think the odds are in favor of the good people winning when a disastrous lunatic decides to strike.” The first three classes are full. But they plan to offer more classes in the coming months.

Yah gotta love Texas.

Rob- I do.  Many sheriffs across the country do this.

John – I just wish more police ranges were available to the general public.

Gary –

Indiana Sheriff Vows to Ignore Obama’s Executive Actions on Gun Control
Not all police are retreating from the politicians. Elkhart County Indiana Sheriff Brad Rogers appeared on a local PBS panel discussion about gun rights and gun control in the wake of recent college shootings. He went on to say that he wouldn’t obey orders from on high that went against his constitutional oath.  Quote “We’ve always had this conversation that we need more reasonable gun control put in place.  But we (already) have what is reasonable, in my opinion, and in fact it’s probably overdone. I think people are tired of being victims and a firearm is a great equalizer. Whether it’s a female, whether it’s an 80-year-old, the guy who’s kicking in your front door after he knocked and you don’t answer — that is a very scary event.   You can call 911, but I’m telling you, we’re not gonna make it in time to neutralize the threat … the people of this nation [have got] to take responsibility for their own safety.”

Another guest, a local radio host, said gun registration is a “feel-good” measure that actually “works” only when the government moves against the people. He added that following England’s gun restrictions that there is now a “knife culture” there. That’s absurd, It’s not the tool, it’s the bad guy.

Sounds like Indiana has a hot-spot of common sense in media and law enforcement.

Constitutional Carry Takes Effect in Maine

We have some great news this week as Maine became a Constitutional Carry state.  According to a poll in the Bangor Daily News, a clear majority like the idea. Maine citizens have flocked to gun stores in order to exercise their Constitutionally guaranteed right. Blood is not running in the streets, despite the usual hyperbolic claims of the anti-rights groups. that the sky is falling.

Maine State Senator Erik Brakey sponsored the new law.  He said, “A criminal is not going to get a permit. He’s going to break the law. The same goes for gun-free zones. Criminals are not going to obey these zones.” Likewise, firearm instructor Adam Foster added the perspective of someone who lived under a similar law in Alaska.  He said, “The world continued to turn round and round. Nothing changed, really. There were no wild, crazy gunfights in the street.”

Well, heck, we could have told them that. And we will continue to.

Six states down. Only 44 left to go.

John – if you are not a prohibited person and are 21, you can carry concealed or openly. If you are a vet, then it is 18 or older.

Princeton Turns to Firearm to Protect Students and Staff
In our last story, there’s been a sudden, unexpected rush to sanity at an unlikely place: the ivy covered walls of Princeton.

The Daily Princetonian reports that Princeton Department of Public Safety officers will have access to rifles that can be used in the event that a gunman tries to take innocent life or simply brandishes a firearm. DPS Executive Director Paul Ominsky said, “The national best practices for responding to an active shooter have evolved. It is now a law enforcement best practice to get an armed officer to the scene as quickly as possible to save lives.” He added, “Response time matters. Even a few minutes can make a difference to save a life.”

Well, heck, we could have told them that. And it wouldn’t take a half million dollar education either. See, a professional, degreed educator CAN learn. But can Harvard and Yale?

Gary –

Rob- Blue polyester uniforms don’t bring you superpowers?

Gun Quotes

We chose this week’s gun quotes in honor of the New Jersey SAFE conference and the Gun Rights Policy Conference.

This quote is from Ayn Rand.  She said, There is another kind of social pyramid. The genius who fights ‘every form of tyranny over the mind of man’ is fighting a battle for which lesser men do not have the strength, but on which their freedom, their dignity, and their integrity depend. It is the pyramid of moral endurance. Close quote.

Let me add that I am more than willing to be a step in this pyramid

Rob MorseObama’s  Executive Orders – or why we don’t trust the government with our guns

Rob- One of our listeners contacted me with a criticism.  On this podcast we speak as if our listeners knew all the previous news.  That means a new listener is missing part of the story.  Thank you, Alana, for that comment.  Here is a story that brings new listeners up to speed since the murders at Sandyhook, Connecticut two years ago.

Many gun owners are antagonistic towards the Obama Administration.  There is a reason for that hostile attitude today.  The Obama administration lied to us again and again.  At one point, Obama said he was not here to take our guns.  Later, he said we should turn them all in.  The president has also weaponized every aspect of government to suit his political ends.  From the Internal Revenue Service, to the Veterans Administration and the Environmental Protection Agency, each agency maximizes the political donations they receive and ignores the people’s business.

After the public murder at a community college in Oregon, President Obama again said he’d issue executive orders to regulate firearms.  I read his 23 point plan, and it is important to read his orders to see how they will be abused by a corrupt Chicago politician.

Gary-  This doesn’t sound too bad.  Obama said he’d require federal agencies to make relevant data available to the federal background check system.  Isn’t that a good thing to stop criminals from getting guns?

Rob- This sounds good, and it might be good under an honest president.  First, criminals don’t buy guns at gun stores, so they never bother with background checks.  All our recent murderers either passed their background checks or murdered to get their guns.

As to the national gun owner database, Unfortunately, there is insufficient fact checking before the feds put garbage into their national database.  We’ve all read about people who have a similar name or address who were denied a gun or the ability to get on an airplane.   Making bigger mistakes faster is not progress.

Suppose someone with a name similar to yours tries to buy a gun.  There is a terrible bias to use military tactics on gun owners when a phone call would do.

Here is an example.  Suppose your brother is a military veteran.  He listed your house as his address when he was deployed. Years later he lives somewhere else and is being treated by the Veterans administration   Now the cough medicine your brother took is sufficient cause for you to get a SWAT team kicking down your door to disarm you “for your own safety”.  After all, we wouldn’t want a gun owner taking dangerous drugs.. even though your brother is now thousands of miles away.

Those are not accidental faults; those are key features of the Obama plan.  The political goal of this administration is to promote their political ends, not to help those who are struggling with addiction or depression.  They want to punish gun ownership and make guns unattractive to the general public.  A federal database is only another political tool to that end.

Gary- OK, so how about this one.  Obama wants to remove legal barriers in Obama Care that may prevent states from making information available to the background check system.  Wouldn’t that help find crazy people and keep them from getting guns?

Rob- Good question, Gary.  This proposal means the private information you gave to your doctor isn’t private any longer.  How about the night you stayed awake worrying about your nephew.  That can now be seen as a disqualifying sign of mental illness.  Don’t talk about the headache your spouse had last week.  Those can be considered critical indicators that when taken together allow the government to seize your firearms.  The government now pays your doctor, so the doctor you visit actually works for them, not for you.  Find a private doctor and pay him yourself if you want advice on any mental health issues.

Gary- Obama says he wants to improve incentives for states to share information with the background check system.  What could be wrong with that?

Rob- Let me translate that bit of bureaucrat speak for you.  “Improve incentives” means withhold federal money unless the states do what the Obama’s donors want done.  In our case, states will fork over information about gun owners or the feds will cut state funding.

I’ve seen Chicago politics, and believe me that a loyal socialist bureaucrat can always find a paperwork violation.

Gary- Obama asked the Attorney General to review categories of individuals prohibited from having a gun to make sure dangerous people are not slipping through the cracks.  Don’t we want to keep guns away from danger people?

Rob- Remember, Gary, that the Obama administration called Christians, veterans, and the Tea Party the greatest threat to America.  The southern poverty law center called my wife a terrorist.

Meanwhile, Obama invited thousands of Syrian fighters and thousands of Mexican drug gangs across the US border.  We’ve already seen military veterans and social security recipients stripped of their ability to own firearms because they have their monthly checks sent to a third-party payee.  According to the Obama Administration, anyone who isn’t a dues paying card carrying SEIU member is a threat.

Gary- Obama also proposed new rules to give law enforcement the ability to run a full background check on an individual before returning a seized gun.

Rob- That sounds so harmless.. and it so so easy to abuse.  First, the government comes into possession of firearms for many reasons.  It might simply mean you had a gun in your car when you were the innocent victim in a traffic accident.  You might be a passenger in a car that was stopped, and now the government takes your firearm “for officer safety” and without probable cause.

You would think that running a background check simply means determining that a gun owner is not a criminal.  If you think that, then you date yourself to an earlier time when we had an honest government.  Today it means searching your medical records to see if anyone in your family ever asked for a sleeping pill.  You can have your firearms seized if your niece, who now stays with you, ever saw a mental-health counselor or had a restraining order when she was getting a divorce.  You can be disarmed if you had your dying parents move in with you while they were receiving pain medication.

Once the government has your guns, then they will determine when they are done with their investigation.  If that takes 15 years or 20 years, well that works for them.

Gary- Obama wants the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms to issue guidelines on background checks for private sellers.  That seems OK to me.  I want everyone to have a background check.

Rob- Of course you and I want to keep guns away from violent criminals.  At the same time, we don’t want to turn honest gun buyers, gun sellers and Federal Firearms License holders into criminals through bureaucratic regulations.  There are some 23 thousand firearms laws, and government lawyers have all the time in the world to prosecute you for each regulation.  Some states already require that every firearm transfer go through a gun dealer and receive approval by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.  Failure to comply can be a felony.

Even handing your gun to your hunting partner as you cross a fence line is now illegal in some states.  Think about background checks for a minute.  If I sell a gun to someone with a concealed carry license, then I already know the person has passed a background checks.

No, this proposal is not about criminals getting guns.  I’ll say it again; criminals never use background checks.  This executive order paves the way for a national database of all firearms owners.

Gary- Obama asked for a campaign to promote safe and responsible gun ownership.

Gary, it sounds like Obama is going to promote your concealed carry class.  I guarantee he is not  going to fund the NRA to run more firearms safety campaigns.  This order allows Obama to give federal dollars to his anti-gun lobbyists.  You and I now get to fund their propaganda with taxpayer dollars.  Of course they anti-rights groups can and will endorse candidates before the election.  That is what community organizers from Chicago do with their phone and their pen.

Gary- President Obama asked the Department of Justice to report on lost and stolen guns.  That sounds safe enough.

Rob- The Department of Justice is headed by US Attorney General Loretta Lynch.  She is a noted anti-gun bigot.  An anti-gun bigot would write a report about the so called lost and stolen guns that criminals use.  She would say we need “smart guns”.  Those are guns that become inoperative if they are stolen from the rightful user, just like smart phones.  Of course, the Attorney General would exempt police, military, and the security details that protect politicians.

PAUL-  That’s because no one wants to trust their life to a gun that can be hacked by a chinese teenager.

Skip

Gary- Obama asked the Consumer Product Safety Commission to review safety standards for gun locks and gun safes.  Don’t we want top quality locks and safes?

Rob- Paul, Gary and John, when was the last time you had your gun-safe tested and re-certified by a licensed gun safe inspector?

John- There are no licensed gun safe inspectors!

Rob- Exactly.  So the Consumer Products Safety Commission can now report you as a danger to the public because you’re using an unregulated gun safe.  They will issue a report saying firearms must be locked and inaccessible.. preferable buried under several feet of reinforced concrete.  And the rest of us need our safes inspected every 90 days.. or they come take our firearms because we were negligent.  I trust this president as far as I can throw my gun safe.

skip Gary-  You have to like this one, Rob.  Obama wants to provide law enforcement, first responders, and school officials with proper training for active shooter situations.

Rob- Gary, the NRA is not going to write that report.  It’s Obama who will tell us how to react when the next murderer comes to a “gun free” school.  Unfortunately, we need a plan that goes beyond run, cower and die.

The NRA and other organizations have begged schools to plan and train for active shooters.   When such laws were proposed in congress two years ago, the bills were buried by democrat legislators!  The Obama Administration will produce a propaganda piece so that urban school boards can safely continuing their policy of “gun free school zones”.  Me, I’d prosecute every school administrators for criminal negligence after each and every violent injury in their school.

Gary-  I’ve one more question.  President Obama wants the Surgeon General to research the causes and prevention of gun violence.  That sounds good to me.

Rob- Gary, this might sound like research into public health to treat the mentally ill.  Instead, Obama wants to spin up his propaganda machine.  The anti-gun Surgeon General is named Vivek Murthy.  He will issue propaganda from the Centers for Disease Control.  He will report that all firearms in civilian hands are a risk to public health and safety.  The Surgeon General can define anyone who wants to defend themselves as mentally ill.  The Surgeon General can also fund the Schools of Public Health that anti-gun billionaire Michael Bloomberg has already set up.  Those universities will produce more government propaganda using taxpayer dollars.

Gary- You’re saying our own government will be twisted against us no matter what the letter of the law says.

Gary, that is it exactly. I judge a politician by his results, not his words. If you have not been listening to the podcast for a while, then you might have missed our recent political history.  I am critical of this president for turning government against his political enemies.. and the american people.  The Obama administration does anything it pleases.  There is no law to constrain them as long as they have 40 loyal Democrats in the Senate and cowardly Republicans leading them.  No one’s rights are secure.. particularly firearms owners.

Paul- We will be back with our stories of defensive gun use after this break.

Concealed Carrier Stops Kidnapping Attempt
A Pennsylvania man used his concealed firearm to stop an attempted car-jacking and child kidnapping near Plymouth last Monday. A criminal first assaulted a local woman outside a gas station and tried to steal her car. Frustrated, the man ran into the road to steal another car. The car he stopped had two children secured in the back seat. The woman driver began yelling for help as she was pulled from the wheel and thrown to the ground.

It was at that point a local man drew his concealed handgun and intervened in the desperate situation. “I have a license to carry this gun, don’t move!” Rob Ragukus held the man at gunpoint until police arrived. No shots were fired.

The owner of the gas station said that Ragukus was “The best man. He saved all of us.”  The CCW holder said “I had to do what I had to do. It’s something everyone needs to do, step up and take back their town.”

Congratulations, Mr Ragukus. Well done, well done indeed.

Rape Victim Snatches Assailant’s Gun and Shoots Him in the Face
A woman found herself kidnapped and raped at gunpoint late in a Springfield, Ohio night. The rapist held her body, but could not constrain her will to live. When she saw an opportunity, she took it – and the gun – and shot her attacker in the face – twice.

It only took the jury four hours to convict the one-eyed rapist.

In the situation the woman was in, she could have been easily been further injured or killed after the rape. In that desperate situation, she acted, and used the best tool at hand to even the terrible odds. Our congratulations to the heroic, resourceful woman.

Two Thugs Try To Rob Armed Citizen Walking Down Street
Here’s a damn good example of why we need to bear arms when outside the home. A Houston area man was taking a late night stroll in his neighborhood when he was jumped by two robbers. The man used his firearm to defend his life, killing one attacker and wounding the second.

A neighbor related; “The shots sounded like they were fired by somebody who knew what they were doing; very distinct and deliberate,” said Marcel Smith, who lives feet away from the shooting, “From my balcony, I could hear the deputies and the robbery victim talking about it all.”

No arrests have been made so far. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office has not said if the shooting was justified.

Woman Who Shot at Fleeing Shoplifter is Charged
It is a terrible thing when someone uses their CCW firearm. The only thing worse would be the injury or death of an innocent. Laws require that the weapon must only be used when serious harm or death is imminent. A Detroit-area woman ignored what she was taught in her CCW course and injected herself into a shoplifting situation where no lives were at risk.

The CCW holder saw a man with a shopping cart running from Home Depot security. The man jumped into a waiting SUV with about a thousand dollars of merchandise. The woman drew her CCW and fired at the departing vehicle. The SUV made good it’s escape,  limping away with a flat tire. Two Flint men, ages 52 and 46, were later arrested for the shoplifting. Thankfully, no one was injured.

Detroit police investigated and determined that the woman was not being threatened when she fired the shots. She has now been charged with a misdemeanor count of reckless use, handling or discharge of a firearm. The woman’s lawyer said she made “a spilt-second decision to take action, trying to help.” We disagree; she should have already long known this was NOT a time to employ her gun.

A Detroit Free Press columnist wrote that the woman was only was “…only doing what she’d been told, time and again, from people like National Rifle Association chief Wayne LaPierre to presidential candidate Ben Carson.” This is, of course, is a damn lie. Shame on the columnist for writing such libel and the Detroit rag for printing the lie.  But print it they did – harming the CCW movement that we support.

The woman’s CCW class was required to teach her when a CCW firearm can be lawfully used. Since no lives were being threatened, she should have kept the gun in the holster and acted as a good witness for the police. Because of the critical nature of what we do, all CCW carriers NEED additional training, recurring training, and ongoing practice. DON’T be this woman.

Rob-

Waffle House concealed carry permit holder Shoots an armed robbery suspect
There are a lot of places we’d rather be than in a Waffle House at O’dark thirty. However, the employees and customers of one hash house are glad a Concealed Carrier was amongst them one morning. “He saved us, that’s what he did.” according to one employee.

Charleston, South Carolina police received a 5 AM report of an armed robbery and shots fired at the local Waffle House.  Police arrived to find the suspect was already on the ground with a bullet wound.  The suspect was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

An investigating officer said, “It says something about firearms, for good people with firearms being in the right hands.” The division manager for the restaurant chain, said this was the first incident he could recall since it opened a year ago. “No one was hurt, which is the best part,” he said. “No one was injured — besides the suspect.”

The suspect later died at the hospital. The Coroner’s Office later identified him as 19-year-old Joshua Jermaine Davis. Davis was thought to be living with a friend in the downtown area.

The customer had a valid CCW permit. Police said they are not pressing any charges at this time. Despite this situation’s outcome, Waffle House will maintain their No Carry policy in all of their restaurants. I guess we will be finding better places to be at 5 AM in the morning.

Stay safe, stay strong, stay well.  CF

Listener e-mail discussion

On your last podcast you talked about point shooting and referred to training from Bob and Ben? In San Antonio?  Who are they and how can I get training from them.  I did do a quick search but came up empty.  Thank you for your time and the podcast.  Just started listening and enjoy it.

John Harris.

Hi, John.

We referred to Bob Mayne and Ben Branham.

Bob is at http://www.handgunworld.com/

Ben is at http://modernselfprotection.com/

I plan to take their classes soon also.

Gary –

Paul: Rob, do you have any new posts from your SlowFacts blog you want to mention?

Rob- I wrote a post called Please Regulate Guns Like Cars, and another one called Why we Don’t Trust Government With Our Guns.  They are at Clash Daily, at Ammoland, and at my blog.  That is at slow facts dot wordpress dot com.

Paul – I want to talk about the Please Regulate Guns Like Cars article. Rob, you have caused quite a stir with this post. I posted it on my personal Facebook page and if the results there are any indication a lot of people are talking about this.  I consider myself a gun rights absolutist. I believe that there should be no regulations on any type of weaponry at all period. I don’t think that you wrote this as a advocacy piece saying that this is what we need to do, however if somehow everything in your article were to come to be the law in all of the US, as the anti rights crowd likes to say when they propose changes in gun laws. “It’s not going to solve all of the problems but it’s a good start”

Rob-

John, tell us what’s new at your blog no lawyers only guns and money

To commemorate the state of Maine going constitutional carry, I released Every Picture Tells a Story, Part Three. With the help of Rob Vance, the blog post graphically shows the growth of shall-issue and constitutional carry since 1986. It updates a post we did in 2011. At that time, approximately 2/3rds of the US population was living in states that had either shall-issue or constitutional carry. With Maine going constitutional carry and Illinois and Wisconsin adopting shall-issue CCW, this has now grown to almost 3/4ths of the US population.

Rob- I carried at GRPC.  I had an additional adventure on the way home because I had a gun.  Here is a pro-tip for traveling with a gun.  Carrying a gun only adds a few minutes to your travel time at the airline counter, but it could add one problem.  You CAN NOT be late at the airport, not even by one minute, if you’re carrying a gun in your bag.  There are hard cut-off times for checking a bag before your flight.

You can’t dash to the gate and then check your bag as you walk down the boarding ramp.  We have to check our bags at the counter if we’re flying with a gun.    I missed my flights so I had to rent a car and drive the last hundred miles.

One of the highlights of the trip was to meet AWR Hawkins.  He has been writing a lot these days.  I also got to talk with Jim Irvine.  One of my disappointments was the people who did NOT go to GRPC.  Come on, guys.  Go to Tampa and stop making excuses.  Really, I lost respect for some people who didn’t go to the conference.

You know we have to shout out a thank you.  You know that, don’t you?  Guys?  Who do we owe a thank you?

I was on Mark Walter’s Armed American Radio and on Bill Frady’s Lock and Load Radio program a couple of times.  We have to tell them that we’ll hold a seat in the front row for them in Tampa.

I’ve also stopped carrying concealed in Louisiana.  I carried as a non-resident because I had nonresident reciprocity from my licenses in other states.  Those licenses are not valid for carry in Louisiana now that I’m a Louisiana resident.  I’m applying for my new permit and going unarmed.. unless I go to Texas, where I can carry again.  Don’t you all feel safer?!

I made room reservations for nra convention in May.

I have some training coming up.  I’ll be a line coach with Jeff and Robyn Street in Naples Florida on October 24th.  They are having a glock range day at the LouLand Gun Club.  The entry fee is $5, and they have loaner guns.  If you’re on the South West coast of Florida and are free on Saturday, October 24th, you should look into it.  Maybe you have a friend who talked about self-defense.  Look for glock range day at step by step gun training in Naples, Florida.

John – I spent yesterday morning at the local gun show working the Grass Roots North Carolina booth. We got a number of people to sign our petition saying no more gun control at the Federal level. It will be delivered to our US Senators and Congressmen. While at the show, I bought enough ammo that Hillary Clinton would say I need a license to purchase – if she had her way.

I have talked to a number of people about attending the next GRPC in Tampa including fellow GRNC volunteers. I think this past GRPC in Phoenix had to rank as one of the best. I talked to more activists than ever before from a number of states. I credit the podcast for this as I was more visible and people sought me out. The other thing I enjoyed about this GRPC is that I finally got to meet Gary and Rachel in person. It’s one thing meeting a person over the Internet, it is another to meet them in person.

Gary – What training do you have coming up?

We have a weekday evening ILFCCL class coming up October 19-22 it will be four evenings from 6-10pm.

I had to block a friend on Facebook for posting a name calling article to me. That really makes me sad, when someone reverts to name calling they are admitting they have lost the argument. Please try to avoid this in your conversations with the anti-gun crowd. This brings me to this post on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/CourageCampaign/photos/a.164423892567.119987.7364882567/10153300704932568/?type=3 This is a post about the concealed carry school ban in California. The horrible things people are saying to each other, from both sides of the argument, are despicable. Please remember we are a polite society. Aside from that, someone posted “…no armed bystander has ever stopped a mass shooting. Ever.” and it got 8 thumbs up. There were also several posts about how a concealed carriers will just start wild west shoot outs with the bad guys and cause more carnage and kill innocents. I just want to say with no animus and only love in my heart, if you believe this you are flat out wrong.

I and most concealed carriers take carrying a self defense tool as seriously as most people do driving a car or surgeons do when operating on people. If you think me being in your proximity while I am carrying a concealed firearm puts you in more danger again you are just wrong.

Oh, yah GRPC…the water slide was awesome. Seriously, amazing, got to meet so many positive minded gun rights people that it recharged my energy to do whatever I can in my own small way to support gun rights. Take your time and watch all of the video that we recorded at GRPC, I promise something from the speakers or one of our exclusive interviews will make you say to yourself, “Wow, that was interesting or I hadn’t thought of that.” The listeners have been so helpful in the past I’m reaching out to them again. I have a student that is interested in switching to a shoulder holster for the winter and since it’s been over 20 years since I did bodyguard work and wore a shoulder holster under a suit I’m sure things have changed, so if anybody out there is currently using a shoulder holster please share your experiences with us at OnAir@PoliticsandGuns.com Sig P938

Paul – WOW what a GRPC in Phoenix. Had a great time while we were down there and an amazing trip back. Highlight of my time down there had to be Dave Workman giving us a little grief and then jumping on the mic after finding out we were on the air and coming through like a trooper. Also getting Alan Gottlieb (my personal hero in the gun rights arena) on the air.

Highlight of the trip down was a tie between meeting Laura Carno for lunch and taking US 160 just east of Pagosa Springs Colorado. Really experienced truckers that spend a lot of time in the west or southwest will know the reference to Wolf Creek Pass, made famous in the C.W. McCall song. It is a BEAUTIFUL drive… in a car… I can only imagine what a pain in the butt it is in a truck.

The Trip back was highlighted by a stop for breakfast at the Shooters Grill in Rifle colorado. A few things about this stop, first there isn’t any truck parking close by. the nearest truck parking is about a mile and a half away at a rest area.  Secondly the food is REALLY good. I was expecting that they were getting business off of the gimmick of the staff open carrying, but I was pleasantly surprised!  Yes, our waiter was open carrying (he carried an XD) and was super attentive to us. Another surprise about Rifle is that of the 3 cafe’s that were on Main street 2 were open for breakfast and of the 3, two had pro gun signage up. Also there were 2 ummm marijuana dispensaries and both had very clear no guns allowed signs.

Was on the GunBlog Variety Cast this past  week, thanks to Sean for asking me to come on and doing a masterful job of editing my ramblings. We talked GRPC and why more people should be there.

UCC shooting

The members of the Polite Society Podcast would like to extend our sincere condolences to the family, friends and community of the nine victims off the Umpqua Community College tragedy. Trapped by madness and religious hatred and bigotry, the students and staff of UCC paid a fierce price in what the school administration had declared as a gun-free zone. Not even the school’s single security guard was allowed a firearm to preserve the fantasy of an unarmed oasis.

Obama didn’t wait for the bleeding to stop before he rushed before his cameras. In twelve minutes of rambling petulence, he expressed his frustrations with his six years of gun-control failures. Referring to himself 28 times, much more than twice a minute, he personalized the gun-control debate, holding it as a personal affront that his desires had not been granted. He trotted out the usual non-sensical “common sense” demands, backed by discredited studies, half-truths and outright lies. And he pledged to politicize the tragedy even further and push the usual gun banner’s dreams – NONE of which would have prevented the murders.

Obama targeted a unnamed, sinister, shadowy organization that was wholly responsible for frustrating his whims. His willing minions in the media were quick to take up the boogeyman fallacy. More than a few people who should have known better responded and demanded that the NRA be labeled as a terrorist organization. No mention was made of the millions of people that actually make up, support and guide the NRA.

It’s hard to believe this latest divisive distraction from his collapsing presidency will go anywhere legislatively. The Congress is in relatively friendly hands, even if Boehner and McConnell roll over once more for old times sake. The danger is in Obama’s lawless and unConstitutional executive actions.  The one phone and pen action that has been floated will do absolutely nothing to affect violent crime, other than possibly criminalizing some wives for selling their late husband’s firearm collection.

What the Obama tantrum did is identify his desired end state for the gun “problem.”  He favors the British and Australian models of gun control. Have no doubt those models mean draconian bans on nearly every firearm in private hands, door to door confiscation, mass destruction, and the centralization of all arms and power in the hands of the government. This, Mr President, we will resist.

It’s going to be a long, difficult wait until the Twentieth of January, 2017.

Comments:  Okay – I’m outta here. The Princess is back.  Thanks again

How’s the tone for the above rant?  OK, Dan.

-john – I want to point out the killer passed background checks.

Paul -There were widespread protests in Roseburg, Oregon when the president came to visit.  Roseburg is a deeply red working class town.  The president and the media were widely resented as using the town’s tragedy for their personal profit.

Rob- I want to talk about gun control.  Oregon has mandatory firearms registration.  The murderer registered his firearms.  Oregon has mandatory background checks.  The murderer passed those background checks.  The school campus is restricted as a gun free zone, and honest students were disarmed as the murderer went to a gun-free zone.  Oregon is a gun control paradise, and the state is ranked 18th out of 50 by the Brady campaign because of its strict gun control laws.  Obama had to speak out quickly.  Not because he has a solution, but because his policies failed so miserably and he needed to distract the public from noticing his failure.

As to the news media, they have been horribly corrupt in their coverage.  Here is a thought experiment for you. Do you think the media would be chanting for more “gun-free zones” if the murderers we’ve seen this last year were attacking newsrooms rather than schools? I think the newsies would start carrying at work.  The CNN studios in New York had armed guards the day after the Charlie Hebdo murders in France. and they do today as well.  They have armed security every day.. yet they say we should put our children in disarmed schools.. and blame the National Rifle Association even though the NRA has begged for armed school guards.

Open comment- If gun free zones are such a good idea, then start with the White House.

-John – I will say that some Republican presidential candidates responded appropriately. I want to mention Bobby Jindal and Ben Carson in particular. Jindal asked where the father was and Carson asked why more people didn’t fight back.

Rob- Did you hear where 22 people were stabbed when a 16-year-old boy went on a  rampage.  It happened in Pennsylvania.. in a gun-free school zone.

Hate to the NRA

Top strategists in the Democrat party have decided this is the year to attack gun owners.  We’ve heard several outbursts from politicians condemning honorable gun owners and the National Rifle Association after this last public murder.

  • Hillary Clinton said “You know, the NRA’s position reminds me of negotiating with the Iranians or the Communists. You know there is no possible discussion and it’s for political purposes.”
  • President Obama asked America’s gun owners ..to think about whether your views are properly being represented by the organization that suggests it’s speaking for them.
  • Bernie Sanders said “we have got to come together on common sense approaches.. to ban semi-automatic assault weapons, guns which have no other purpose but to kill people.”
  • The Chicago Sun Times says every politician in washington should pass a law making it illegal to sell a gun online or at a gun show to anybody who is a convicted felon, repeat domestic abuser or seriously mentally ill.  How unreasonable would that be?

Obviously the Chicago Sun Times and leading democrats don’t know existing firearms laws that already make those transfers illegal.  They don’t know how mass murderers actually get their guns.. or they don’t care, because they only need to sell voters and advertisers, not solve a real problem.

Gary?  open comment-  The NRA is the only organization that gets blamed for things its members never do.

  • John – I don’t have a problem with neg. like the Iranians. They got the bomb and the USA got nada.

Rob- I called the NRA and asked them how NRA membership numbers look.  In particular, I asked the membership office in Fairfax, Virginia  if people were calling up and cancelling their memberships.  They aren’t.  The rate of new memberships and renewals is up, but they have noticed a particular surge in new lifetime memberships.  Life memberships are usually a thousand dollars, but the NRA runs a promotion at each annual meeting where they drop the rates.  You can become a life member, an endowment, patron or benefactor member.

A friend of mine in New York City is a photographer.  She doesn’t own a gun, but after hearing the progressive politicians dump hate gun owners and the NRA, she became a member.

John- Now your friend gets daily e-mails from Fairfax.

CF- She doesn’t have to get them if she doesn’t want them. The NRA is EXTRAORDINARILY good about respecting their members desires. My Father bitched and moaned until I talked to the NRA for him. They immediately took him off all their mailing lists. This forced my Dad to find something else to bitch and moan about. 😉

Do Non-Badged Citizens With Guns Ever Stop Mass Shootings?
In his televised fit only hours after the UCC murders, Obama dismissively asked if more guns actually reduce crime? Eugene Volokh, of the Volokh Conspiracy blog, answers definatively: Yes they do!

Professor Volokh cites ten times where a civilian with a gun stopped a mass shooting.  Of course, such instances are relatively rare, as the diseased mass killer usually chooses places where he will not be restrained in his sick fantasy. Areas like gun-free zones. As an example, the Aurora theater killer deliberately bypassed nine closer venues and choose a smaller movie house – because it was the one protected by a gun-free zone sign.

It seems the only logical way to reduce these mass killings is to eliminate gun-free zones.

Rob- I’ve written about this.  John has written about the failures of gun control.

Gary- Massad Ayoob has written about this. He references an article that talks about a dozen cases where a concealed carriers stopped mass shootings.  It is good to see other journalists weigh in.

-John – I love what Mas calls GFZs – hunting preserves for psychopaths.

Cuomo Throws an Anti-Gun Tantrum

Speaking of petulant tantrums, New York Governor Cuomo threw a beaut at the funeral of an ex-aide. His former aide and friend was shot at an early morning party in the Bronx. Instead of eulogizing his friend, the rabidly anti-gun Governor of New York City and Albany delivered a political anti-gun stump speech. He demanded the Democrats shut down the nation’s government until the gun control laws that are not working in New York are legislated nation-wide.

We certainly agree with Cuomo’s demand to shut down the non-essential portions of the federal government. However, the laws that the citizens of his state are roundly ignoring are nothing we could tolerate under our Constitutionally guaranteed Rights. Better try again, Stumpy.

Ronald Reagan Carried a Gun While President
Another President had very different ideas about personal gun possession and use. Brian Meltzer, author of the new book The President’s Shadow, reports that President Reagan carried a weapon in a bag or briefcase with him after the assassination attempt. A Secret Service agent revealed this info to Meltzer while he was researching the book.

Looks like the nickname Ronnie Raygun was a little bit closer to the truth than his detractors would have hoped. Good on you, Mr. President!

For any commentator: Sooooo, what gun do you think Reagan carried?  A 1911?  ;^)’  Old School Cool.

Paul- I remember an old interview where RR stated that he saved a woman from an attack from his room by pointing an unloaded handgun at the perpetrator. It was widely thought of as a made up story until NPR (seriously!) tracked down the nurse who corroborated the story.

CF-Yep, a 45 Colt single action, if I remember correctly.  Definitely old school cool.

Felon Shoots and Paralyzes a Veteran Outside of St Louis Cardinal Stadium
This story strikes too close to home for one of our staff members. A 43 year old veteran celebrating his mother’s birthday at a St Louis Cardinals game was shot and paralyzed by a felon with a decades long rap sheet.

Chris Sanna and his girlfriend were walking back to their car after the Cardinals game when they were assaulted by two armed robbers. Despite giving the criminals everything they wanted, Sanna was shot in the back. The bullet punctured his liver and lung after destroying two vertebrae and his spinal cord. Doctors do not expect Sanna to walk again. There has been a recent spate of victims being shot after a robbery, perhaps related to the racial tensions in the city.

Several days later, police arrested Kilwa Jones for the assault. Jones was already in jail for beating the mother of his two children. Police found video of Jones using Sanna’s credit cards. They’ve also recovered a 9mm Hi-Point from the career criminal’s car.

The Cardinals do not allow any weapons in their stadium; that includes knives and pepper spray. They do back up their policy with metal detectors, but that works only inside the stadium walls. Fans must walk the downtown streets to get to get to their cars. The fans are known to be weaponless – and very attractive to criminals. From personal observation, city police and security guards are largely absent from the streets after the games.  Fans disarmed – and abandoned – Cardinals games will be few and far between.

Rob- Gun free zone.  fugitive from justice.  Tell me again how the state will protect us from thugs.

Governor Brown Vetoes SB347
It’s a sad commentary on the state when “Flaky Jerry” Brown, Governor Moonbeam of California, is one of the more rational political voices.

Senate Bill 347, authored by Senator Hannah Beth Jackson, a member of the Barking Moonbat Caucus, would have eliminated Second Amendment rights for some minor firearm-related misdemeanors. For example, possession of a single round of ammunition on school grounds could have cost a citizen their firearm rights for ten years. Brown vetoed this bill and eight others, stating; “Each of these bills creates a new crime — usually by finding a novel way to characterize and criminalize conduct that is already proscribed …without commensurate benefit.”

Congratulations Governor Brown, for bringing a small amount of common sense to California.

Unfortunately, sanity was apparently only a fleeting acquaintance, as Jerry has signed Senate Bill 707. The bill, despite the experience of the UCC murders, prohibits licensed, law-abiding CCW holders from carrying firearms on school property. The law further criminalizes the simple possession of ammunition on campus, even without the firearm. Apparently, the politicians decided to Gun-Free Zone HARDER!

Rob- This is more of the culture war on gun owners in California.  So the inadvertent possession of ammunition on school grounds was vetoed in one bill and then passed in the next bill.  The democrat politicians of California are abusing gun owners while they build another school shooting.  The California Attorney General said the legislature should show autopsy photographs of the murdered students in order to pass more gun laws.  I like that.  I want to show the pictures of the murdered students to show how their gun free school zones failed again and again.

John – I think Gov. Brown is trying to split the baby. He vetoes one anti-rights bill and then signs another. It doesn’t work that way. You are either pro-rights or anti-rights. There is really no in-between. The fact that SB 707 creates a privileged class – retired LEO – is wrong.

Professor leaves Texas for Australia

Here is a lighthearted take on the very somber subject of guns on campus.  MIssouri and Texas passed laws allowing carry on campus.  A local campus denied its staff the right to carry.  In similar situations, some professors have written articles saying students are at a greater risk once licensed concealed carriers are disarmed.  One law school professor at the University of Missouri is suing the school for a civil rights violation by denying him the right to carry. A business professor at Purdue in Indiana is also fighting for that same right.

John- William A. Jacobson is a clinical professor of law at Cornell Law School.  He also blogs at the Legal Insurrection website, and he came out against gun-free schools.

In contrast, one professor at the University of Texas at Austin said he will leave Texas and go to Australia to teach because of Texas carry laws.  Another 390 faculty members from UT said they would not allow students with CHLs to carry in their classrooms.  Given that few of their students are over 21, that is a hollow threat.

John- They could be 18 if they were in the military.

John –

Susan- Rachel had this to say about her fellow texans.

Maybe all the anti-gun professors will leave and get replaced by a friendlier faculty.

I hoped that someone who has the credentials and education to be a professor would understand some basic logic, including but not limited to the following points:

-We’ve already had campus carry for almost 2 decades, just not inside the school buildings

-this new law does not allow 18 year old freshmen to have any more access to guns, nor does it permit them to use guns to murder professors

-someone intent on shooting a professor out of anger is not super likely to go to the trouble, expense, and time of obtaining a chl.

Unfortunately, UT Austin professors are baffled by such simple arguments.

Rob- Most of these professors are elitists.  A university president with either conviction or bravery would accept their resignation and say good riddance.  If you’re carrying in class, it is not a sin to tell a lie to someone who does not deserve to know the truth.

Gun Quotes- Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.  Martin Luther King, Jr.  I would add, do you love your family and community enough to protect them?

Hang on everybody, we’ll be back with our guest (Name).

Campus Carry in Texas

Campus Carry goes into effect on August 1. It will allow CHL holders to carry concealed inside buildings on campus. Schools in Texas are currently deciding what their policies will be, since they are allowed to restrict carry in areas of their choosing. Our activists are speaking up to try to prevent carry restrictions.

Guests:

Tina Maldonado, UT staff member and chapter facilitator of A Girl & A Gun

Brittany Sutton, student leader of Texas A&M Students for Concealed Carry on Campus

Action items:

  1. UT-Austin is conducting a survey. Please share it with your people who are connected to UT and ask them to fill it out. This includes students, staff, faculty, and also anybody in the community. Link: https://utexas.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_9QrRbfdWtcjk0Bf
  2. Everybody in Texas knows somebody connected to A&M. Find those pro-gun students and tell them to join the facebook group Texas A&M Students for Concealed Carry on Campus. There will be public forums – make sure they go and speak up. Link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/tamusccc/
  3. Befriend a college student and take him or her shooting.

Houston Deputy Shoots Home Invader

A Houston, Texas criminal made a very poor choice in the victim selection process. Behind Door #1 stood a Harris County Deputy Sheriff and his duty weapon. When his door was kicked down and the invader rushed into his home, the deputy fired. The suspect fled in a car likely driven by a second suspect. Because blood was found in the hallway, it is almost certain the Deputy wounded the invader. Area hospitals have been alerted to watch for a black male with a gunshot wound.

We note that the Deputy was in the same desperate situation that many normal homeowners are finding themselves. He relied on his weapon to save his life, as many of the other homeowners have done – and will do in the future. That’s certainly a common sense reason to own a firearm.

Three Against One Turns Out Poorly For Home Invaders

A homeowner turned the tables on three home invaders – through the use of a firearm.  A Dallas-Fort Worth homeowner found himself under attack by three invaders. Their robbery and assault was going as planned until the homeowner was able to grab a gun. Neighbors heard the five shots that hit all three invaders. The criminals ran from the house and escaped in a car driven by an accomplice. The driver abandoned the car at an intersection, and the three wounded robbers were arrested and taken to a hospital. The feckless fourth remains at large.

Rob- Point shooting was taught at an NRA safety class.

John- look for one handed point shooting Col. Rex Applegate.

Husband Shoots From Behind a Robber
As they say: Location, Location, Location. An elderly Indianapolis couple is together today because the husband used the advantages of position, stealth and a firearm to stop a deadly attack.

The 75-year-old woman was at their property rental office when she found herself under the gun of a 27-year-old attacker. Her husband heard the commotion from the front office, entered the room from behind the attacker and saw the gun pointed at his wife’s head. The man describes his fear for her life and shooting into the robber’s back. When the criminal got up and pointed his gun again, the elderly man fired twice more. Those shots struck the thief in the head. The attacker is in critical condition in a local hospital. He has a long rap sheet with several outstanding warrants for his arrest.

Police will not charge the elderly man. A spokesman stated that if someone comes into your home and you’re in imminent fear of danger for your life, you have a right to protect yourself.

In such a deadly situation, an armed citizen is under no obligation to warn the attacker, nor chivalrously face him. The elderly man was completely justified in shooting the attacker in the back without warning. He rightly used every advantage he had in that deadly situation.

However, most firearm instructors advise to shoot until the threat stops. Allowing the criminal to regain his feet and point the gun again is not a good strategy. Many self defense instructors also believe that with a finger on the gun’s trigger, a central nervous system hit is best. For immediate incapacitation, without the reflexive tightening of the trigger finger, a shot to the brainstem, the medulla oblongata, is recommended. However, the citizen must be able to make the shot to a racquet ball sized target at the base of the brain. Education, training and practice are a must.

This episode is just one more common sense reason to have a gun — and to know how to use it.

Another Craigslist Ambush

Police say at least two criminals were shot after a Craigslist ambush was foiled by an intended victim.
A father and son from Grand Rapids drove into Battle Creek, Michigan to buy a car. When they arrived, they were jumped by three robbers. The son, a concealed carry license holder, fired twice, hitting two of the alleged attackers. The third criminal is still on the loose. Because of the son’s action, neither father nor son were injured.

It should come as no surprise that people with cash or valuables meeting anonymous strangers at an unfamiliar location are in a risky situation. Buyers and sellers should both take precautions. Many police departments are setting up Craigslist Transaction Zones outside of their stations. We urge our listeners to stay careful, observant, and prepared.

Don’t Torque Off The Old Guy

“I wanted to shoot him really bad. I really wanted to shoot him”; said Old Guy Robert Hamm, who had his 10 AM nap interrupted by a man carrying an armful of his tools. “I just pointed the gun at him and told him I’d blow him in two if he moved.” The very expressive Old Guy made the thief lie on the floor until the Carter County, Kentucky Sheriff’s Department arrived. Hamm said he’d known the suspect from birth and he has a reputation for this sort of thing.

Unfortunately, the 75-year-old might get his shot, as the home-invader is still at large. The suspect was so intoxicated from pills and booze that he was taken to a hospital to detox. A day or so later, the thief checked himself out of the hospital — and disappeared. Hamm felt it’s inexcusable that a man who broke into his home carrying a knife was given a chance to walk away. “It made me madder than hell.” The Old Guy had predicted the legal system would let the burglar off lightly. “I’ve seen where they’ve turned people loose who’ve done it four or five times,” he said. Officials say the burglar could be held in contempt of court (ooooo!) since he didn’t turn himself in.

Hamm’s not overly concerned about a return visit. The Old Guy said, “I wish he would. I would finish the job.” The thief should know that you just Don’t Torque-Off The Old Guys. And you certainly don’t interrupt their naps.

Subject: Guns in the cold

Apologies for the delay in sending this in. You had a guest on recently discussing the effects of extreme cold on the functioning of semiautomatic weapons. Immediately it made me remember the exploits of my “cousins” back in Finland during the Winter War with Russia at the outset of WW2. The winter of 39 was one of the coldest on record, so cold that the Baltic Sea froze ships in place. The Finns had to change how they handled the cleaning of their guns, adding gasoline to their gun oil for their rifles,  mainly Mosin Nagants.  For automatics and their artillery they used a mix of alcohol and glycerine to avoid the freeze. I’ll attach an image from William Trotters book Frozen Hell (an amazing read FYI).

As a side note, this would have been the practice of Simo Hyha during the war. Hyha is by far the highest numbered sniper in World history, especially confounding when you consider the short time span of his engagement. Also his weapon of choice was an iron sighted Mosin, scopes raised his head too high.

Love the show, keep it up.

Email from Bud with the Subject line Crazy Gun Studies

I happen to run across this interview today and couldn’t believe what this professor was stating.  I immediately posted it on Facebook, with a detailed overview and the links, to show to my pro-rights friends and followers.  I couldn’t locate it on Facebook, so I reposted it later in the day.  I think that I will post it daily and in different areas of Facebook and other social media sites to ensure that it is seen by many.

Here is my posting

Is anyone buying what this “Professor” is selling when it comes to CHL’s, guns and crime rates?  “There isn’t any correlation between concealed handgun license holders and crime” according to the professor and his colleagues at Texas A&M.   He also describes how they collected and formulated their data, which is drastically different than normal research performed by others.  You can listen to a short interview that the professor gave on Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at http://dfw.cbslocal.com/audio/minute-with-mitch.

Texas A&M Regents Professor Emeritus Dr. Charles Phillips states that he was not surprised by their findings.  He said a couple of things during this short interview that leads me to believe that he has an agenda in obtaining his results.  One is he states that “according to the NRA, if you don’t carry a weapon, you are a CHUMP”.  And secondly, “the NRA’s definition of a victim is someone who doesn’t own a gun.”  I’ve never heard anyone from the NRA state this and I’ve never seen it written on their website.  Maybe the Dr. can point this out or provide a link where I can find this information?

He states that their research shows that the number of CHL holders in Texas counties has a direct correlation with the number of firearm dealers in that county, but nothing due to crime rates.  CHL holders are very seldom convicted of crimes, but when they do happen they are big time serious crimes. He references previous studies that he or Texas A&M have done named “When CHL Holders Break Bad”.   In these studies they found:

  • There are very few convictions or occurrences of crimes by CHL holders
  • They are violent crimes
  • A firearm is usually involved
  • There is a death

He also states that “easy access to a means of deadly force means that it is likely to be used.”

Dr. Phillips cites 3 recent studies conducted by the American Journal of Public Health which conclude that more guns (he doesn’t state whether legal or illegal, and I have not read them yet) equal:

  • More police officers are killed
  • Higher rates of young male suicides
  • Guns are more likely to be used by, or on, another occupant of the home, rather than to protect you from an outsider or stranger (criminal).

The Dr. provides the following advice – “If you are thinking of buying a firearm for home defense, consider the following:

  • Guns in households are dangerous
  • It is more likely that GUN suicides will occur
  • Don’t believe that you are going to save yourself from, or during, a criminal encounter.”

Just for the record, I am biased on gun ownership, CHL holders and I’m a lifetime member of the NRA.

I hope that you guys can create a research topic on firearm studies and results in a near future podcast.  I would really like to hear someone have Dr. Phillips on their show to challenge him on his research tactics and conclusions. Maybe having Dr. John Lott on the show to discuss specific issues with the way that studies such as this one is slanted for certain results would also be very enlightening?  We all hear of different studies, with major differences in their results and are often left wondering who is right.

Keep up the good work on the Polite Society podcast.  I look forward to listening to it each week and I have even gone back and listened to the older podcasts to hear topics of the times and the fine DGU stories.

Thank you,

Bud

-John – Believe or not, I actually know Charles Phillips. Or did. He was an asst prof of political science at UNC-Chapel Hill when I was in grad school. He got there in about 1981 and left in 1987 when he didn’t get tenure. He was one of the young liberal professors. I didn’t know he had become a prof of public health.

Rob- I’ve read the studies.  They count a criminal bringing a gun on your property as if it was your gun… and therefore you had a gun on premises.

Jacob emailed us a video of a hero who stepped in and ended up losing his life trying to help rescue a woman being threatened by a man with a gun

http://higherperspectives.com/homeless-man/?utm_source=cleo&utm_content=inf_10_34_2&ts_pid=2

This guy is a hero. Full stop. He made a risky move when he saw an opportunity, and it could have turned out very poorly, but I find it hard to fault a man who is so clearly willing to give his life for a stranger. He gets shot, mortally wounded, and continues fighting to subdue the attacker and save the victim. I hesitate to call him a victim in return, because I doubt he would want that – I think he knew the trade he was making and went in knowing he might not come out. I think it really drives home what Paul always says – weapons and tactical advantages might make defending yourself easier, but the fight is never over as long as you’re conscious and willing to fight back.

William also emailed us.

Greetings All,

I’d sent this weeks ago but I am a world class master procrastinator. I’ll reference several shows.

You had referenced the wonderful NY trigger and kind of equated it to that of a double action revolver.

While that can be true it really depends on the revolver, specially the time frame of it’s design and build. My wife has an old Webley revolver made back in the early 1900’s. It was carried by her grandfather who served as a sheriff somewhere in West Texas. We don’t shoot it but the trigger pull is such that I’m tempted to use two fingers when I play with it. (Not very often due to its on hammer firing pin.) I suspect that is very close to the NY trigger. I hear the new S&W J-frames are as bad but haven’t pulled the trigger on one to see. On the other hand the K-frames made back in the 50’s and 60’s when the police were using them were very nice. Maybe 7 to 8 pounds, smooth and were a joy to shoot, if you used proper trigger technique. Still kicking myself for selling one that I had. And while python’s stack a bit differently I’ve heard few complaints about their triggers.

Next topic. Several time you, and those on other podcasts, seem to make a distinction between the police and civilians. Unless a police officer is also a member of the military they are also civilians. While that is nitpicking word usage we really need to be careful as those opposed to our views will use anything they can against us. Perhaps “private citizen” would be a better term to use for distinction.

Last topic for this email is the apparent misconception with regard to using a gun to protect property in Texas. In spite of what has been said Texans can no more use guns just to protect property than anyone else. We do however have a bit more leeway. As it was explained to me back when I took a concealed carry class in the 90’s. The teacher was a police officer and what he said summarized and in my words.

If I see someone in my workshop I can go out and confront him. However unless he has a weapon, picks up something to use as such, or makes a furtive movement I can’t just shoot him. I can however have a gun in my hand. At night things are a bit different because I can’t see as well. Does he have a weapon I’m not seeing? What during the day time might look innocent might look like a dangerous furtive motion at night. Is someone else hiding in the darkness. It all comes down to whether we think we are in mortal danger.

>From past episodes I know you will say that you shouldn’t go out and confront them. While that may be true it is a personal decision and realize that when people live in rural areas things are a bit different. That 911 call which may take 10 long minutes in town can take hours in the country. The last time I needed an officer’s assistance they had to patch me through to the responding officer so I could talk him in. Couldn’t find the place.

Either way, I for one, don’t want to just sit and watch while someone carries off all my stuff. I guess it boils down to the feeling that if something is worth having it is worth fighting for. It is a decision I’d just have to make at the time and the situation. If there is a team, they can take what they want. My life isn’t worth the risk.

Is a human life worth my table saw? I don’t know. Is the bad guy really human or a predatory animal? While legally human you have to wonder what will he do on his next job? I think we all would do what was necessary to stop him if he was stealing a firearm. It’s a very complex issue with lots of what ifs.

Enjoy your show. Keep up the good work or I’ll cut what I pay for your show. 8->

=====================================================

Paul: Rob, do you have any new posts from your SlowFacts blog you want to mention?

Rob- I posted the links to the Gun Rights Policy Conference along with a list of the speakers.  I did that for each of the three segments we recorded.  I also wrote up a review of the conference.

After the recent murders in Oregon, we’ve heard the howls for more gun control.  The politicians and news media got me thinking, and I asked myself if gun control works.  We know it doesn’t work in schools, but I wondered if I was missing something, so I looked at the data from each of the 50 states.  I put the states in order based on their level of gun control, and then looked at the FBI data for the crime rates in each state.  I printed the data out as a graph so anyone can see it.  After looking at the results, I can say that gun control does not reduce violent crime.  The article is called “Does Gun Control Work”  I’ve seen several other authors write similar articles, so it is a good time to study that question.

This may sound simplistic to our long time listeners, but most people have not studied these issues at all.  They think violent crime has increased when violent crime has fallen since the early 1990s.  I want to thank our listeners for reading past the headlines and staying informed.

In another article I said gun-free zones and fatherless boys are killing us.  That was in the article called Liberal Politicians Blinded by Feel-Good Policy on Guns.

My articles are up at Ammoland and Clash Daily.  After the shooting in Oregon, I noticed I had 55 entries in my category called Public Violence.  You can find all of them on my blog at slow facts dot wordpress dot com.

John, tell us what’s new at your blog no lawyers only guns and money

I’ve done a number of posts since GRPC but this is one I want to highlight. Dr. Carson said that if the Jews had not been disarmed it could have made a difference with regard to the Holocaust. He was correct and the mainstream media piled on trying to discredit his statements. They are trying to make out like he is a kook and trigger happy. Frankly, they are afraid of the truth. One need only listen to our friends in JPFO and read the writings of Stephen Halbrook to know that.

I will have an important post coming out on the 15th. It will be called Every Picture Tells A Story, Part 3. It will be in honor of Maine going live with Constitutional Carry on that day. It graphically shows the growth of freedom from 1986 through 2014.

That and more is at only guns and money dot blogspot dot com.

We would like to thank Charlie Foxtrot for writing up show notes for us. Even though you don’t hear him on the air he is certainly part of what you do hear. Look at his blog at not one more gun law dot blogspot dot com
